Dreading W5R3

Just completed w5r2 with a bit of a struggle but managed to keep jogging for the 2 x 8 min. There is a lot of chat about w5r3 and this is the first run i am really dreading . I have kept up with the programme and not missed one run/week but confidence is flagging a little - does it get any easier??!

Dread ye not! You'll be fine. Gird your loins gal, go for it and when Laura pulls you round to the finish line, you'll wonder what you were worrying about

Let us know how it goes

Well done on what you have achieved so far. I have only recently completed w5r3 this week and it was really a matter of mind over matter and focusing on my breathing. Give it a go with a positive attitude and I bet you will succeed. Good luck.

You've got the worst one behind you. DO NOT LOSE YOUR CONFIDENCE! So much of this is mind over matter. Believe in yourself - you'll manage fine because you've done all the runs so far so you should be well prepared! GOOD LUCK

I was terrified of W5R2, but when I actually did it, it marked a complete change in my attitude to running. Up to that point, I was completely reliant on the instructions from Laura, and just did what I was told. When I did W5R3, I realised that if I was going to get through, I had to take responsibility for my own pacing and for managing my own run. I took it slowly and carefully, making sure I wouldn't run out of juice half way through, and it went off a breeze. The experience was a bit like the first time you drive a car alone after passing your driving test. You no longer have the instructor there telling you what to do, you just do what you think is right. It requires more thought and care, because you can't rely on someone telling you exactly what to do, yet it is so liberating. I wrote a post on my thoughts at the time, which you might find helpful. Hmm, that link seems not to have worked. If you do a search for "Thoughts on Pacing" that is the title of the post and it should bring it up.

There is really nothing about it to dread. I completed it this morning. I wonder if it's just the idea of it being the first run without a walk interval that worries people? Good luck tomorrow, you'll be okay. Best wishes.

Best advice is to take it nice and slow. You can make it! You have successfully made it through all the training to Week 5 which is a great achievement! ...and so you are ready to push it a little further.

You'll get a great sense of achievement when you have completed W5R3 so go for it!

Good luck!
