Why is this? I know that I haven't done much form of exercise for years and only getting back into it. And how can I keep motivated to continue with this program?
Ive just come back from my week 1 2nd run and ... - Couch to 5K
Ive just come back from my week 1 2nd run and my legs feel really achy after, in comparison to my first run I felt more energetic then.
My shins and lower legs ached a bit all day after all my runs for week 1 and two, then for a few hours week 3 and four. Just finished week five and legs felt ok after my runs, I think my legs just had to get used to running?? I did four repetitions of the runs in weeks 1-4 as wanted to take things slowly and not get injured. Hopefully by keeping going you will get over this obstacle
You'll find that after some runs you feel amazing & after others you feel ...... less so!! I haven't quite figured out why yet. But the 'bad' runs really make you appreciate the good ones!
You've done so well to start this programme - take your rest days, recognise your personal achievement after each run & keep posting on here - you'll get loads of encouragement here.
And good luck - you CAN do it
It may be the combined effects of one and two. Or, as LSBeach said, it may just be for no reason you could point at. Have a good stretch and a hot bath and look forward to run 3!
You should stretch after each run. Have a look at these. nhs.uk/Livewell/c25k/Pages/...
Stretching helps reduce the inevitable aches and pains associated with any new exercise regime and also reduces the risk of injury. Your body will get used to the exercise and will stop complaining after a few weeks. Push through it, it is worth it. Good luck.
Thanks for the advice. completed my third run in week 2 on sunday, found it a little bit easier. although still aching.
I have taken on board to do more stretching before and after my run. although when is the best time to stretch after the 5 minute walk or before? because I've been doing it before i even get out the front door.
