Hi everyone!

I started the couch to 5k yesterday using the get running iphone app :) I've started it once before, in January, but got out off when it didnt stop raining so now I'm trying again from week2. I was wondering how long it took for you to see results from the programme - and how do you stay motivated to keep running? I'm planning to do the race for life at the end of June so I'm hoping to be finished by then.

Thanks, and if anyone has any tips please let me know.

If you get out consistently you see results every week! That is what makes it so motivating. You get to the end (I graduated today - waiting for my badge!) and look back and can't believe how far you have come. As for tips... Always have a rest day between runs - more than one day if you need it. I think it is better to have an extra rest day and always complete your runs than try and run when you are sore or tired and then find you have to give up. That is quite de-moralising. Always stretch after your runs - if you don't it WILL catch up with you eventually. I have lost two years of running through injury as a direct result of not stretching/warming up properly and then had to start again from scratch. Don't be afraid to repeat weeks if you need to, but on the other hand, I firmly believe that if you have completed every run during a particular week you should try and move on to the next week. Mainly because if you are anything like me, you will never feel 'ready' to move up a week but when you try it you find that you can do it after all! Lastly, stay in touch with this wonderful forum and if you like Facebook, we have a great supportive Facebook group too. Happy running!

You said it all YJB1, it only works if you run regularly and C25k provides its own motivation in the sense of achievement that it provides week by week. Congratulations to you on your graduation and good luck, jm9512, that will be you in a few weeks time. Stick with the programme and your life will change for good.

Thank you :) I'm looking at the next few weeks thinking 'I can't believe I'll be doing that' at the moment, but I'm really excited to try. Did you graduate recently?

Yes, today! I am now aiming for a 10K in June, I start the schedule at the end of March. In the meantime I will just carry on with 30 minutes three times a week. Believe me, trust in Laura and you will be doing it too!

Wow, thank you for your answer! I love that you're so motivated about it, hopefully I'll be like that soon, haha. The forum looks great actually, everyone seems so supportive so I'll be definitely be here a lot. Well done on graduating! Are you going to keep running, do you think? :)

Hi JM

You give it some welly! No ducking out when it's raining. You'll probably find that rain is a God send, quite literally, when your'e boiling hot on a run. It's lovely and cooling.

If you run every other day you should feel motivated to get out there as running is quite addictive if you give it chance

Happy running

Haha, I'm hoping so... I'm planning to run tomorrow morning and the weather's taken a turn for the worse so I might get a chance to test that!

Personally I love running in the rain. I'm not so keen on the wind though!

So I managed to drag myself out of bed and complete my second run (w2 run 2!), I'm feeling stupidly pleased with myself haha. Just thought I'd keep you all updated, and thanks for the advice! :)

It's that stupidly pleased feeling that will keep you going. Well done.

Just an update - I was due to start week 3 today, but I went rock climbing on Friday and absolutely kiiiiiiilllled my legs, so I decided to repeat a day of week 2. I'm really pleased I did - where last week I was struggling with the 90 second runs and had to walk a bit of one, today the whole thing seemed much easier and I was so much more comfortable. I'm so motivated to keep going now! :)
