hm
Moger, if I see a runner today singing to themselves I will start laughing. Hope we both get a nice sunny day
Good luck all of you!! At the Eden project HM it said no iPods etc but I just ignored it!!!! Loads were wearing them....??? Good luck with the singing... And the HM!!
Why do they ban ipods? I'd find it very boring to run without!
Who bans iPods? (Other music players are available :-)}
Take the things out of your ears and listen to the real world.
I'm a 'naked runner'* in that I never listen to anything except the real world.
I enjoy music as much as anyone, but it is so nice to get away from the normailty of a noisy life and just be as one with the world ~ wherever that may be.
* Don't worry, I DO wear clothes. Believe me, it wouldn't be a pretty sight if I didn't!!
I wouldn't ignore this rule. Why should anyone participate in any other sporting event and ignore any rules they dislike? Is that not against the spirit of sport? The organisers must have their reasons. How many athletes do you see competing with music players attached to their heads? I think we should treat races with the respect they deserve and leave the music for training (if at all).
or just listen to the crowds cheering you along the way!
I always use music when running alone but never when running with others. I think the logic of the organisers is probably a health and safety one - you need to be aware of people around you. From a personal point of view, I think it's nice to soak up the atmosphere and listen to the crowds cheering you on - which is a real boost.
I did a half marathon in September and had to leave the iPod behind. Actually, I enjoyed the experience and run quite often without music now. Only thing is, I can hear myself puffing and panting!!
Good luck
Sorry this is a bit late but I have just picked this up from the park run website- "We would rather you didn't run with headphones- it makes it difficult for our marshals to communicate with you. Our events have a special community feel, which you cut yourself off from when wearing headphones." Perhaps you would miss out on that community spirit with the headphones.
