OMG - Great North Run....

I foolishly put my name in the Daily Mirror ballot for one of three thousand places in the Great North Run - and received an email congratulating me on my successful application this morning...

I started C25K late September, graduating early Dec. Since then I've started a 10k program and managed my first 10k run over Christmas.

Coincidentally I've been working in Newcastle the last couple of days - running 11k (a life time record) of Newcastle's roads last night.

Thankfully I have 8 months to get the distance up. I've entered a few 10k and 15k runs before then to motivate me to keep up the training and guess I should start some of this interval and temp running I've heard about but not tried yet.

I never dreamt when I started on this program that I'd ever do 10k, never mind a half marathon.......

I can't believe you graduated in early December and ran a 10k over Christmas! Wow! I'm seriously impressed. Congratulations on the Great North Run. Hope you're flying the flag for the C25K. All the best for your training.

Lol, neither could I.

I started a program (10k for Pink android app) which was similar to C25K, starting at week 9 as week 8 was their equivalent of C25K graduation. Week 12 was 3x18 min with 1 min walks and I was 300 meters short of 10k. I decided to go for it, and managed the 10k on my next try with no breaks.

I'm thinking of adding 1k per week going forward for a long run and a couple of shorter runs on other days.

Not what you're looking for?
