I've gone quiet, and some of you (?) may have missed my postings if you'd paint to watch drying, but i've not been around. Mostly, man flu has crept up behind me and mugged me when I wasnt watching. This probably explains (to some extent) why the last run was so hard, and i had nothing in the tank.....
I did some reading on here, and the overwelliming advice was dont run when unwell, so relucatantly, I've missed the start of my week 3, and spent a lovely period asleep in bed. I've not shaken it off yet, so i will give it a few more days, then I shall get back off the sofa and get back out there. I plan to repeat the last run of week 2 again to see how it goes, or even rebuild further if i have too.
I should be asleep now, so night all, have a great christmas, and some one pass the tissues!
Oh dear, so sorry that you've got the dreaded manflu. You'll be over it soon though so don't leave it too long before lacing up those trainers and heading back out.
Poor you. If you have a head cold, no fever, you can still run If you have fever or chesty cough then don't. I know boys always feel these things much, much worse than we (stoic) girls do so you can always go for some 1/2 hour briskish walks between starting to feel better and being well enough to run again, it all helps your overall fitness (I recently had a break from running, but my brisk walks to work and back, total of 1 hour meant I could still run ok when I did start again).
My sympathies. Have just recovered myself and found not being able to run totally frustrating. Good info from vixiej, I had a bit of a fever, sleepiness and chesty cough so really had no energy for running but went out yesterday and did not too badly.
Think the knack is to remember this is something you will be doing for years to come so missing a few days or a week isn't that important in the bigger picture. Get better, then get your shoes on and get out again. Get well soon. BTW I am a woman and consider myself fairly hardy but I did feel rotten and a bit sorry for myself too
Did you know that man flu is a naturally evolved defence from the days when we were hunter/gatherers, stopping us masculine types from putting ouselves at risk, while out hunting and our running abilities were impaired, to avoid sabre toothed tigers from catching us. Women carry on because all they have to do is sit around, skinning animals and doing the cavework. I can hear the shrieks of dissent already and expect to be barred from this site forthwith.
Look after yourself. I like lizziebeth's comment - it's something we will be doing for year's - puts it into perspective & is going to help me be a little more patient.
