Had my Eureka moment and then.....

...hurt myself. Haven't posted for a while as I've been a bit 'at sea' since graduating. It was when I finally ventured outside, in the dark with my own playlist that I suddenly started to enjoy it! For once I was in the zone enjoying running alongside crawling traffic on the main road and looking at the Xmas lights. I felt so good that when I got to the end of my loop I went round partway again and ended up doing 6.5k in 43 minutes! I could have just run and run. I've done that twice now but have developed a hip problem. I think it may be tendonitis. My Husband gave me a massage and found a 'ridge' right over where my pain is. It's no good, I'm going to have to rest it. I gave it a weeks rest before and I've gone straight back to square 1 having run again last night. Really hobbling today. Really gutted. I was doing so well :-(

Sorry to hear that Jen , you will get back to it , I have noticed if I run those distances I have aches & pains , do you think we have increased the distance too fast ? I read you should only increase 10% and do it steadily . I did 5k sun , & was fine . Wishing you a speedy recovery .

Possibly. I actually noticed the pain when I was doing 5k on the treadmill. I wondered if it was because you run differently to when you're outside. I'll have to reign it in a bit. Shame though!

That is a distance. Well done for being able. I agree with Rockette. I have heard about the 10% rule as well. It is sounding like your body might be asking for smaller increases. I know that must feel really frustrating especially when you are in the zone when running, but spending a bit of time building up when your ready and I doubt you will ever have to do it again.

I hadn't heard that but it makes sense. I just felt able but now I can't walk properly let alone run so it serves me right :-(

Really sorry to hear this. I'm on the cusp of going out for the first time with my own playlist and will be very wary of getting carried away.

Yes , it's easy done.

I'd kind of like to experience the desire too though, lol.

Yes, it is! Especially if you're on a roll! You feel invincible!

Gosh that's a great time! Well done. Do you stretch after a run? I think it's critical even on rest days. I have an old ankle injury that sometimes gives me bother when I put in extra mileage but I take extra rest days and keep stretching. I'd rather have fewer runs each week than none in the longer term!

Yes, I always do the cool down and stretch AND have the shower/bath. I think I've just done myself a mischief and need to wait till it heals. So frustrating. I'm only getting out once a week as it is because of the pain. Just as I started to see the light!

Once a week is better than none! When you're 100% your body will remember all the training you've already done and will be all the better for the rest!

Do you think so Princess? I do hope so. I worry about losing fitness at this stage - especially over Christmas!
