I bought some new thermals last week but they are too big and will need to go back. However when I was putting on my running tights this morning I wondered if I could use them instead.

Does anyone use running "longs" as thermals under walking trousers?
Yes, you could do. I don't as I have a couple of pairs of long underwear for under walking trousers and don't have any standard running tights. I have capri's and 3/4 length and thermal running tights, but no full-length thinner tights.
I use my long-sleeved running shirts as a base layer under my micro-fleece and jacket for hillwalking.
Thanks. I thought you might know. I've got some quite thick Saucony's and some cheap compression tights from Lidl so I'll have a go. I've got used to wearing softshell type trousers when walking and don't want to go for lined winter trousers.
Yes, I'd bought some wonderfully comfy thermals when in NZ, I used them under my 3/4 running trews when it got really icy last Feb. Admittedly, they came lower than my usual capri runners, but at the time I needed them most, they kept my hips, thighs and knees really warm and I'm sure they helped keep muscles and joints safe from injury. I've never really felt that my ankles and lower legs needed extra layers, and they're a nuisance when they get wet and muddy anyway.
All my thermals from last year are too big because of my weight loss, so I tried my compression tights instead and they work great. I wear them now underneath my trousers when going to work. I bought another pair of the compression tights to use when it gets a bit colder and I will need them for my runs. I bought these ones:
