Juicyju has been a busy She panther this weekend, and I have managed to achieve some 'besties', so heres the lowdown list of Panther Bests...

1. Parkrun 29.55 minutes

2. Fastest mile: 8.34

3. Fastest 1k: 5.22

4. Fastest swimming mile: 38 minutes ( usually 45 but I can only do breaststroke!!!!)

5. Most ammount of washing done in one weekend: 7 loads so far...

6. Most ammount of chocolate consumed in 2 days ( I think I needed it though!!)

7. Most ammount of f***** grumpy runners giving me the filthiest looks ( I am so sorry I swore at them all behind their backs)...it was about 85% and I was actually really cross...but I will not give up, I will smile and say hello to every single runner I pass even if they try and kill me ( hopefully unlikely but you never know...)

8.. No panther bests for my 17k today but I do have a top tip.....

Panthering tip:

This might be something you all do, but when I 'discovered' this today I felt like I'd struck gold in a pan...

So- we all have milestones in our runs don't we? first k, first half an hour= slow jog for two, looking forward to the downhill etc....you get the gist..

Well I have a few big hills on my 17k route and theres one really big boring one that I just wanted to swear and shout at ...so I said to myself...OK Ju, just get to that stinging nettle sticking out there ( 10 paces away) ..I did that, then the drain up there, then the lampost ( all about 10 paces)...Are you with me still???

You know...before I knew it I was at the top....I used it all through the run, and when it was really tough I made the gaps shorter ( as little as 7 paces), and mentally because my brian knew it was achieving lots of little bits it gave me the mental endurance to finish. I am so happy as I know that will get me through my HM when its so tough.

Its a bit like when you think about the enormity of the run ahead you feel like giving up, but its about that elephant...eating it one bite at a time....

I hope that might help you, and its probably something thats written about or you do already but you never know....

Right... I am now covered in post it notes with my name on as my daughter has been sitting next to me writing them and sticking them on...so back to being a mummy!!!...but I can't wait to be a panther again soon....

Happy panthering everyone...

Juicyju

Big congrats on that Park Run time, we all know how much the sub 30 run has been bugging you. Brilliant!! And all the rest too. All those personal, personal bests add up to a happy runner, I reckon, and in your case a happy panther.

As for the tip, that's one helluva lot of nettle patches on a Half marathon.

Crazy blog, as usual. Well done!!

Hey 5.22 min KM buddy! :) great tip, I'll be using it to get through the HM next weekend. Small manageable chunks is key otherwise can be quite overwhelming. X

Those hills are like joining dot to dot . Well done for keeping at it - I will try that technique when hills look to defeat me:-)

Great times JJ - treat yourself to a large celebratory glass of water for the sub 30min 5k ;-)

I don't know how you do so many long runs so regulalrly - but great to see, even if it demands a chocolate sacrifice. And, as for the grumpy runners, they're probably just envious of your speed and distance - besides I find that the one or two who respond with a wave or an acknowledgment more than make up for those (all women by the way) who blank me.

Thankyou... And you know, women are such b****** because its them that give me dirty looks too...I'm ashamed to be one....sorry, you know I'd give you a huge, warm smile and a 'morning'... Or 'bonjour Monsieur Landesman'

I know and regret that there aren't more like you. :) It's odd because the French here are amazingly polite and courteous, with it being impossible to walk anywhere without people, even schoolchildren and extreme misanthropes like teenagers, saying 'Bonjour'. Every male runner, walker or dogwalker nods and greets you, but the women ... Maybe they're frightened that someone will jump them if they look at them, but they should know that most other runners barely have the strength to raise a limp wrist in a wave, let alone anything requirng more exertion. Strange.

... It is strange... Perhaps it is a cultural thing not to smile whilst exerting oneself...???? In which case I think they are ( and I'm sorry to say this) frigid!!!

Great post, as ever, Madame Panther. I used your 'small milestones' tip a lot when I was first starting out on C25K & it really works, especially when you forget which milestone you've set and realise that you passed it without noticing so are actually further on than you think and can truthfully claim to be an ace whizzo!!!!!!

And your point 7 really winds me up too. It's noticeably worse at weekends, when all the 'intermittent' runners come out; notice how I don't include us in that description. C25K runners are Committed!!

Nice post. Was the seven loads of washing related to the chocolate by any chance ? I agree with you about the milestones - how do you eat an elephant - one bite at a time. Bit of a food theme here...

How's the Ribena avoidance by the way ?

Purrrrrrfect.

7 loads of washing! Don't envy the ironing part.

You will achieve your hm and then you can have a well deserved drink :-D so keep it going.

Great Park Run Juicyju, great timing!! Good luck to you for your HM!! I am yet to train for the HM but doing 5K twice and 10K once week now.

Don't understand why women can't give a little nod when they pass a runner, no big deal, heh? Most of the men runners acknowledge me while women...well.., just ignore me! I, being a woman want to change it, so I acknowledge most of the runners..

Good luck to you juicyju, don't be scared..you are going to be 'purrrfect'!
