couch cat to panther...reflections of a year

It is exactly one year today that I started on week 1 run 1 on a whim when I happened to come across it on a website.....I can remember the run vividly... feeling so alive as I was running and so breathless!!!

so here are the stats:

942 km since graduating in April 2012

5 HM length runs

1.5 stone lost

From size 12/14 to size 10

I can wear skin tight skirts to work , with delicious underwear and feel really sexy, in fact I have never felt sexier

A new friend who shares my passion

Parkrun...how fantastic...free, make friends, get fit

Running makes me feel so alive and free, and in control

Although I'm 43 I now feel at least 10 years younger

I am so close to my 12 year old beautiful boy because I got him to run with me and it turns out he loves it too...

I have spent more time outdoors and just enjoying all the elements and I have run in some beautiful places

In the next year...

Train for the Paris marathon for April 2015

Get my times down

Get some runs in exotic places: volcano, coastal and deep in the woods

Continue with panthering and following my passions

Thankyou running, its been the best and the journey is only just beginning...

Happy panthering everyone

xxx

Congratulations and happy anniversary! Isn't it funny how a decision made on a whim can change one's life - mighty oaks growing out of tiny acorns, and all that...And your stats are so impressive - so definitely 1000km by April?

PS love the tags. Control underwear today!...LOL

I know.... Gut instinct is always right!!! Oh yes the tags are random as ever... I hate control underwear but needs must on a run!!!

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to Ray801

It's about finding the carnal in you... We all have it!!!!

Hey panther lady, it is amazing what can happen within just one year especially when you are so focussed on your running.

You have come so far along your journey, and have been a true inspiration to all of us mere mortals who can only try and dream of doing a HM.

So what lies in store for the next year?. Marathon you say, you'll do that no sweat, what else something just a little bit more fulfilling?

It's been so fantastic seeing you progress, I remember when I first started and there was others like you just finishing and graduating and I really felt that I would never make it, never be good enough to call myself a runner and would always be out of your league.

Anyway, brilliant tags as usual but I hope they're not true, Control Underwear today..... Doubt it very much.

Happy running, and happy panthering too.

You could add "Inspired others" to that list and "made some new friends".

Well done and I hope the next 12 months are just as enjoyable.

The volcano sounds fun

What a difference a year can make! I think back to how I viewed runners, before I started C25k, and they were rather odd people and I honestly thought, rather sad, sweating away as they pounded the streets as if desperately searching for something that they had lost. Little did I know that they had found it, the magic of actually being alive. You epitomise that change and the joy of discovery, like nobody else, Julia. You must promise to keep posting on here, even after you have completed your marathons, because your rampant enthusiasm is a delight and inspiration to all of us, wherever we are on the journey.

Keep running, keep smiling

One year wow, totally inspirational. I can already see that slick sleek muscled panther walzing across the finish line in Paris.(and then maybe be on to some wine and pastry tasting of course). I like you have found so much from running. At the age of 47 I have found a confidence I never thought was possible for me, it's an amazing sport. Happy panthering as always.

Awww thankyou...I have been thinking about you and your triathalon training, and wondering how you are getting on?? We are so lucky to have this aren't we....??

Realfoodieclub profile image
RealfoodieclubGraduate in reply to ju-ju-

Triathlon training was going great but after op on sat I am on the enforced bench no running for a week and no swimming for 3. It feels a bit like torture. I am so looking forward to getting out again, and on a spring morning like today there is nothing better. We are lucky, and to think it's not like runners don't try to tell you. I wish I has listened years ago.

Doing C25K is the best thing that I've done for myself in such a long time, and discovering the forum with completely inspirational people like yourself has been, well, inspirational! (I have such a great vocabulary!!) I'm out of action for some months unfortunately so you'll have to do the running for me! Keep going JJ and wish Leon all the best. Tell him that I find him inspirational too!

Just a thought.... I wonder if the verb 'to panther' is going to make it to the next edition of the Oxford dictionary? It sums up the hunger sleekness and sexiness of running so well!!!

ju-ju- profile image
ju-ju-Graduate in reply to flossieflyblow

It so does.....and I hope you get back in action soon...and thankyou...take care :)

Size 10? Delicious underwear? Skin tight skirts? Phwwwoooaarrrrrrr!!!! *****faints and falls off chair*****

Seriously though JuJu that is one super post. One thing you say really hit home to me - spending more time outdoors! Of course......I hadn't thought of that. Isn't it wonderful? And how good for the soul too.

The other thing which hit home was the delicious underwear.... ****faints, falls off chair again*****!

Here's to even better things in your second year !

I would raise a glass to you ,but I'm on a " dry February" ( well, January is miserable enough without giving up the sauce,so Feb it had to be ). Roll on next Saturday and I'll toast your achievements with a large glass of red :)

I started on Jan 5th , now onto week 8 starting sunday, so will have to make sure i note that down and see how i'm doing in a years time. Sounds like you have been on quite a journey. We are the same age, hopefully i can get to feel as positive as you in the future! I'm trying my first Parkrun tomorrow!

I somehow missed this post so I'm coming to the party a bit late. Just wanted to say that it seems longer than a year that I've been reading your posts because you just seem like such a natural runner, as someone else said - fizzing with enthusiasm and energy and body-sense. It's always entertaining and insightful, and sheer fun, to read your posts. Keep on posting (I KNOW you'll keep on running!)
