I have completed week 9 and now using 9+ pod casts to train for Great South Run, now up o 35 mins but need to triple this in a month... any tips out there?
Great South Run,: I have completed week 9 and... - Couch to 5K
Great South Run,
Not sure that that's really doable Arthur. The GSR is 16k, right? Assuming you are currently covering aprox 6k in the 35 mins, I seriously think you risk injury by trying to add another 10k onto that distance in just four weeks.
By rule of thumb, you shouldn't increase your distance by more than 10% per week so hopefully in a months time, you may be just about hitting 10k.
I would suggest you plough on with the training and on race day be prepared to walk up to one third of the course (many, many people will be doing this anyway). You will still have a great day and a fantastic experience but without the risk of giving yourself a significant injury
Hi Saruma
I agree it's more than a challenge but reach for the stars and get the moon on the way, I last did it in 2009 and embarrassingly walked half of it in 2 h 25m I hope to run most if not all and complete in less than 1 h 50m without injury is a given!
Completed great south run no problems, no one in my group was running the last two miles as the course turned round by the seafront in to very very strong winds you could lean into. had it not been for that I could have run he whole course. however it was a lot easier to do on the day and realy enjoyed it.
