Not looking forward to day 2
Day 1week 6 done, but oh dear that was hard and... - Couch to 5K
Day 1week 6 done, but oh dear that was hard and yet there were only short runs.Found day 3 week five easier.Anybody know why?
Aah it's the old week 5 run 3 hangover, gets everyone. You're so elated about finishing a 20 minute run that you forget how difficult it was!! then when the pain fades, all you remember is bouncing effortlessly along like a gazelle. Week 6 comes along and it's back to reality. All of a sudden you are less of a gazelle, and more of a red faced puffing potential heart attack on legs. It happens to us all!!
Don't worry, day 2 is much easier.
Haha that's what it is.What do you recommend? X
Just keep going! don't let a hard run make you scared of the next one. The best thing about a hard run is that when you make it through the next one you get a bigger sense of achievement.
I had the same experience I found Week 6 run 1 a right pain even though I managed the 20 minute run without needing the undertaker. I think that taking an extra days rest might be a good idea, I find this works for me sometimes and by the 3rd day I'm actually looking forward to running again.
I have it this evening! I will have to make sure I don't expect it to be too easy.
You can do it.Positivity is the key.Good luck and keep us posted x
Thanks for the encouragement :-). I completed it, it was hard but manageable. I found it mainly a challenge with expectations - the 20min run you expect to be really bad, so you go slowly and are really pleased when you manage it and just remember completing the run, but going back to shorter runs you expect them to be easy and it is more challenging then to push on when you are struggling.
I had exactly the same thing, and going on to do the longer runs I always found minutes 5-10 the hardest - I'd start off okay then hit 5 mins and feel like I was about to drop dead on the spot, my legs would be screaming and I felt certain there was absolutely NO way I would be able to continue. Then I'd make it (somehow) to 10 mins and decide that actually I could probably run indefinitely (obviously not, but that's how it felt!) just so long as I keep putting one foot in front of the other. I always found the shorter runs tougher as I didn't have a chance to 'get into it'.
Then I had a few months off running and had to go back to the beginning - I'm up to week 4 now, and am SO looking forward to feeling that I could just run for ever and ever! Definitely not there yet...
What I'm trying to say, not very well, is keep going, don't be discouraged, and remember that when it's really tough it just means you're increasing your fitness and stamina. Go for it!
I had the same issue with w6 run 1. But did run 2 last night in the rain and dark and it was a good run again. So I think it was a lack of the adrenaline I had for that first 20 minute run.
Is it because you aren't running in one stretch that makes it so difficult.Maybe when you run for 10mins plus you get in the groove.Well done for doing that especially in the rain.Im doing all my runs in a gym on the treadmill so I feel a bit of a fraud, and feel sure when I finally get out there it will be difficult.I live in London in an area full of traffic so don't want to breathe in fumes x
