Ice. Only ice. Snow is fun, as long as it's fresh. You do have to be careful though.

Yep ice on pavements can be lethal and of course when the mercury rises above 30C its just a bit too hot for my liking so I wait for it to cool down.

Yes I agree- ice or blazing sun. I have recently decided I prefer to run in the rain!

I only started in may so I've never run on ice or snow, but I think ice would be dangerous and it would depend on the depth of the snow pack, maybe it would be time to dig the ski's out ⛄

I also have no experience with ice and snow (started in April) but I think the worst is ice-cold heavy rain and hot and humid weather. But I'll probably go out anyway as I became a member of the new local gym last Sunday and they have some treadmills. Oh, and as the gym is just across the street (I can check from my living room window if it's crowded), the weather is no more reason for me not to go for a run ;)

Ice, I can fall over my own shadow!

Ice, gales and 6ft deep snow! Oh and anything hotter than about 25 C.

Flood - I'd just swap the run for a swim

I've run through rain, snow and thunderstorms, but like the rest say ice and heart are killers.

Ice, gales and high temperatures.... I like gentle breeze and a little light rain best of all.

Funny, how we tend to call ourselves "fair weather runners" when none of us appears to like running in the sun. I live in Spain, and the last few months have been so hot from 8am to 9/10pm, that it just makes it so difficult to carry on through the Summer. Am so looking forward to running in the cold and rain, although I wonder how long that will last, when it actually starts happening :)

I tried to run in Spain in and evening in July and it was still 30 degrees. Managed one minute! Way too hot.

Any advice for newbies on running in the rain?!

in reply toPisces77

Thankfully, skin is waterproof, so just continue running is the simple answer. In more detail I would say that a windproof top (which will help shed some water), some longer leggings (ie not shorts) can help, and if you don't like wet feet, some GoreTex shoes or Seal Skinz socks will help a bit.

Basically, just give it a go, but watch out for over heating in jackets. Many of us love running in the rain, but just be aware of taking an electronic car key with you ~ they really don't like getting wet!!

I love running in the rain!

Like nearly everyone else it's heat and ice that stop me.

Viki :-)

extremes - ice and hot sun. Have run in rain, wind, sleet, snow, beautiful mornings, hot midday... and the ice is the treacherous one. Very hot sun isn't comfortable!

We had some really heavy showers yesterday and I was thinking that there was no way I'd step out of the house and start my run in such torrential rain. I was lucky that by the time I was ready to go, the rain had all but stopped. Different if I'd been out in it when it started but to actually step out whilst it was raining so hard? Hm, not sure about that.

Just like me on Saturday. It was raining all day (also not just rain but heavy showers) so I went to the gym and ran on the treadmill. Apparently it was a good decision as I have a sore throat now and it would have been probably worse if I had spent 30 minutes or more in the cold rain...
