I won't be running tomorrow as we have visitors and grandchildren so today is the 'de facto' end of July. So how did it go? Well, ....OK I guess. I'm a little disappointed that I didn't reach 100K a month again, as I did in May and June. It started well with 14K on the 2nd but then there were several fallow periods of little or no running. But it's not all gloom - I managed a respectable 84.6K in the month, at an average of 6 mins 15 secs per kilometre. And I finished the month in fine style this afternoon with 10.01K in 1hour & 36 seconds. I'm pleased with that.
I'm pleased because I'm using that as my benchmark time for August. Let me explain. I'm doing the Great Yorkshire Run (10K) at the end of September, but we're away quite a lot in September so August will have to be the key training month. I'm looking at a programme which looks like 5-0-7-0-5-12-0 every week. I think I can do that throughout August and that should give me a good level of fitness for intermittent 'maintenance' running in September before the GYR. Fingers crossed!! And, as a bonus, if I can do that it'll give me 116K in August. Truly, August will be a wicked month!!

Well done Ned, thats a wonderful tally especially when we have had such high temperatures most of July. Fingers crossed that you make your target in August.
I've a darn hill still to conquer, JL hasn't had a visit for over 3 weeks now, just not good enough, must try harder!
Wow that's fantastic..really great achievement and great stats for a 10k. It's so good to have something to aim for isn't it? Have fun with the grandchildren , juicyju
August WILL be wicked, no school 'til September so lots of running for me, hopefully.
I made it to 100k this month, but my actual numbers are upstairs and I think the Ratchild is on the 'puter at the moment so I can't get to them. I will let you know. (Before last Friday's walk the dog walking part of my stats was exactly 30.00k, it's been hard finding the motivation to take the poor mutt out since then.)
Well done, OldNed! 84km are great stats for such a hot month. The training for the 10K sounds like a good steady programme and with your current pace you'll be on schedule for a good time in the GNR.
Thanks swanscot; it does feel like a steady mix of short, longer & long with some recovery days built in. Hopefully it should set me up nicely for the GYR
