First time First day: Started week 1 today... - Couch to 5K
First time First day
WELL DONE on taking the plunge! The hardest part is now behind you - getting out for the first time! The best advice I had at the outset was to keep it slow and steady. Just aim for completing the runs you are set and you'll be fine! Listen to Laura and trust that she knows where to lead you. This is a brilliant programme and the blog site is superb! Keep coming back to look and you'll find a wealth of knowledge and experience from those who know exactly where you are at and how you are feeling! Welcome to this community and enjoy the journey!
Well done Gypsy10!
well done for starting!! i am only a week ahead of you so if you need any tips/advice just let me know. week 1 may seem hard at first but by week 2 you will be sailing through it! well done for making the plunge - that is one of the most hardest things to do!
Well done...you've started and there will be no stopping you now, especially with the encouragement and support you will find here.I'm just into W5 and getting the breathing right is still an issue with me.I go out quite early because of the heat and often find myself yawning my way round ...not necessarily through tiredness ( well, sometimes!) but mainly to feel I'm getting some air into my lungs..maybe I'm a shallow breather or something.
Make sure you get your rest days in between and as Beek said"slow and steady"- that's the best advice.
Lots of luck with your running
Thanks everyone the support is brilliant x
Like Sarahb_20 I am only a week ahead so there are lots of us at around the same point as you
Well done! I started like you almost 4 months ago, had the same doubts, shocked my body in the same way ("What? Exercise? Are you kiddin' me???") and wasn't sure if I could really keep with the plan. See, what a nice badge if got next to my name now Be assured, if a former sloth like I was can do it, you can do it as well. As the others already said, go slow and steady which is most important I think.
I found this community in Week 3 and although I didn't blog until after my graduation, I read a lot and got a lot of encouragement from these wonderful runners in this community. Come back here whenever you feel the need of encouragement or want to share your achievements with us. We are all happy to help another new runner with the first steps!
Good luck for your journey!
Good on you for having the courage to get off the couch - as everyone above has said, just doing that can be the hardest part.
Now you have done that - you just need to keep focused on the very next run. Just keep on putting one foot in front of the other and you will find that it all starts making so much sense.
This is all about learning how to run - you mentioned the panting - well that will come in time. (during your rest days - you might want to try belly breathing - just search for it at the top) ... or failing that try blowing up a balloon every day - you'll soon see a difference.
Above all else, keep going, believe in Laura and have faith in yourself - you can do this.
Happy Running
Well done for your first run. May it be the start of something fantastic for you, like it has been for me. I am only on week 5. But the confidence I have found from tackling my nemesis is great. Onwards and upwards.
Well done for starting - as others have said, that's the hardest part over. Keep us up-to-date with how you are doing.
