W7 R2 this morning. Ghastly experience! Lost the day now.

Today I went out to do W7R2. Found R1 hard work so knew it would not be easy. Set off at 6.30 and it was cool and overcast.Great! I normally run on empty but today felt very hungry and ate a banana with my water before setting off. Got my competent head on during the 5 minute warm up and coped fine until the halfway point.

The sun came out and I could not find the shade. I pushed myself to keep going to the end. (Ignored Loopy Laura's suggestion to speed up and end on a high) It was incredibly tough today. Worst ever for me. I did my stretches and walked 1 mile home.

I could barely put one foot in front of the other. Totally wiped out and felt ghastly. Weak, slightly dizzy, sick - really awful. And of course HOT,HOT, HOT. When I got home I had to lay down. Then I slept until 1.30!!!! Only just had breakfast and it is 2.00p.m.

What is going on? I hate this feeling and cannot waste my days away like this. Got important things to do! Not a good run - but I did it - I suppose that should make me feel better but it doesn't.

I think this weather has been with us for far too long, we are not used to it and it is interfering with everything sleep, work and leisure.

Sounds like you have had an awful experience of course hindsight is a wonderful thing and looking back I am sure you know where things went bad and can avoid that in the future.

Please do not let all your hard work getting this far go to waste either go out for a later run (not helpful at the minute either) or find a place you can call your own in the shade (woods are good they kind of keep at a constant temperature (about 16/17 degrees) perfect really, I really hope things look up for you soon and will be thinking of you :-)

Hi tor41. Thanks for replying. I know I am not good in the heat. I'm one of those who tend not to feel the cold much. I guess when it is hot I must naturally be a 'warm bodied' person and cannot cool down easily. I absolutely radiate heat and go so red! Never felt unwell the way I did earlier. It was horrible.

I will look into how I could get into the woodland. There is a forestry site nearby but it is up a very steep hill. I mean VERY steep and long - you'd have done a workout just to get up it! But on the top it is only gently undulating so would be nice to run in. Must seek out a way to get there!

Take care not to push it too much if you feel the heat - not worth it! Pour on water!

Although I just have to add that I'm loving the heat! I just hate the cold (we have no heating so that makes winter even worse....!)

Are you MAD? Heat = horrible! My daughter loves the heat. The hotter the better for her! Give me ice and snow every time! You can always put more on whereas there is a limit as to what you can decently take off! We are all different.

Sounds like a touch of heatstroke to me. May be worth thinking of an electrolyte-replacement drink instead of just water, although the banana should have helped there. And of course the general rule with a long and unexpected sleep is that it's your body telling you that you really really needed it. Hopefully you'll recover quickly and breeze through future runs (if necessary pouring buckets of water over your head too!).

Thank you for replying OldNed. Yes. I remember my brother having to cope with heatstroke as a child and his symptoms were very similar. Feels like my head wants to burst when it's happening and just TOO hot hot hot! Not looking forward to next run. Heat is forecast for the foreseeable future round here! And thunder storms. I wonder if people run in thunder storms? I guess a good drenching could be a good thing!

Beek, I did my w7r1 on wednesday and found it a grunting sweaty run, but, felt ok. Yesterday about mid afternoon I felt all the strength in me just drain, felt truly awful, same symptoms as you. I thought i may be heading to dehydration so upped my water intake.

I was supposed to be doing run 2 today, but still don't feel right and my body is telling me 'no'. Will have one more day of rest then try tomorrow. Odd though that this has happened to us both at the same stage.

Hi Ryansson,

Horrible feeling isn't it? I think it could have been heatstroke like OldNed suggested. I should be doing R3 tomorrow and will have to get out super early to find the cool air. Not looking forward to it at all! Will make sure I drink loads throughout today and see how I feel tomorrow!

Make the most of the extra rest day and I hope you manage your next run without incident!

Good luck and take care, Linda
