Advice please. I'm on week3 enjoying it but I CAN'T complete all reps. My body stops. I know I'm tired I try to keep going but I'm struggle. I'm frustrated with myself. The ones I do do I can complete fully. I'm. It sure how's best to tackle this and I wondered if anyone else has had that problem.

Well done getting to week 3!

I would say two things could be at play here, you may well be going too fast. Slow and steady is the name of the game and part of learning to run is learning to pace yourself. The other factor that you could well be struggling with is the heat that we are having at the moment. If you are running anywhere but an air conditioned gym on a treadmill then don't underestimate the impact of the heat. I did my first 10k in snow and my 3rd last weekend in scorching sunshine. I would chose snow every time over the heat!

Try running early in the morning, make sure you hydrate well and go a little slower... and let us know how you get on!

Keep at it!

Could you try slowing down? I found that on about W3 I had to slow down to complete the runs, even though I'd been managing the shorter W2 runs fine at a quicker speed.

I've just done W5R2 and did it by making sure I was running slower than I felt I could, so that I had enough stamina to complete each run.

I don't think the speed matters at this stage, the aim is to build stamina - so you should go as slow as you need to enable you to complete each running section.

Good luck!

would definately say as ktaylor slow and steady is the name of the game. My speed is a very slow jog, but I can feel my stamina improving each time I am out. My thoughts are at least I am completing the 30 minute session, even if it is slow, and speed can come at a later date. I find I love the 'me' time when I put my gear on, my earphones in and walk off to my local park/playing field. Keep at it, and let us know how it goes x

Agree with the others. Snow is way better than heat! And slow and steady wins. You're doing fine, don't be disheartened. You will get there. :)

Hang in there Blueybull! This heat is playing havoc with all of us! Don't be hard on yourself. Just get yourself out, keep it slow and steady and don't use all your energy up in the first fling and you'll be fine. WELL DONE for getting to week 3. You'll begin to enjoy it soon. Try to keep relaxed and just keep plodding on with it. You WILL get there in the end! The heat really is making things harder for you! Can you get out before 7? It may help. And keep seeking out shady routes. You're doing just fine! (and down days and doubts are normal)

Hi,

Thanks for the advice. I can't go for a run earlier as I start work at 7:30 and its a distance away from where I live. I've listened to the advice. It's probably because I'm on my own I'm thinking too much on it. I'm trying to push myself a bit more now each time I do them but I'm not always sticking to the time I can't do it from what I've said before. Do you think I'm ok to continue with week 4 or should I think about repeating this week?

in reply to Blueybull

If you cannot do it or find it hard then repeat the previous week - it will get easier - and remember, enjoy it :)

I agree with the other posts. Slow and steady especially in the heat.

There's also a bit in the head too. It might be worth making a little change to your route so you don't have that "this is where I gave up moment". Once you get past this little blip you can then go back to your old route confident that it won't be a problem.
