For the girls- do I need a bra?

I just bought a new running vest top with an elasticated inner part which is described as built in bra. Does this mean I don't need my sports bra?

Running in front of a mirror in your new top with and without your sports bra will probably tell you if there is a difference in the support - and I reckon there almost certainly will be.

As above. I have a relatively modest bosom (36B) but find it soo much more comfortable to have a proper sports bra (well, a cheapie sports bra from primark, but still)

Depends on the size of your boobs, I think. I find the support in the top is enough, but I'm not that well-endowed!

of course you do.

I wear both on the odd occasion that I run in a vest, its quite nice to have that little bit more support though.

The sport bra I wear I got out of Tesco and it is SO comfortable and supportive. You can cross the straps at the back so they don't keep sliding down and it was cheap but I would definitely recommend it.

I have small boobs and I have just ordered a vest with integral bra combo so I don't plan on wearing one. But every pair of boobs whatever size need good support as running does give some wear and tear!!!!

What is getting me quite excited is that as my weight creeps downwards I am almost at the point where I can run comfortably without wearing firm control knickers to stop my tum wobbling as much as a sports bra-free chest - guess the weight loss is never going to mean dispensing with a bra!

I spotted a shapely runner out the other day and whatever sort of bra she was wearing, it wasn't doing the job. It was almost mesmerising there was so much movement. She was wearing some nice outer things, but I think it is the basics of shoes and bra that matter.

I am a 38 D and haven't even contemplated running without a bra, and I just know the built in bra's wouldn't be enough support for me.

Mine is just a cheap Tesco Sports Bra, but it is doing the trick.

I am only just starting Week 5 tomorrow, and am still using my ordinary Reebock Trainers, I have no idea what kind of running shoes to go for if I invest in some, but think I may have to pay my local running shop a visit at some point. Do you all use proper running shoes??

Yes, of course you need proper running shoes and to choose them you have to know where will you run - sand, road, gym etc.

Yes go to a running shop for advice on the structure you need to get the correct support - well worth it.

Its a bit like a seat belt - I wouldn't go out without getting strapped in!

I'm a 38D as well and I get my sports bras from Bravissimo. I think it's one thing you really can't skimp on! Cheap sports bras just don't give enough support.

I imagine though, that if you're lucky enough to have a small chest you might be able to get away with a vest type sports bra.

Try it.

Everyone is different, but if you feel a bounce you might be more comfortable with a sports bra. Don't forget runners nipple, you don't want to get sore there! That's why men long distance runners put plasters on their chests.

I recommend the zip front sports bras from m&s. I picked mine up in the sale recently for about a tenner. Really comfortable and supportive for running, I almost forget I'm wearing them!
