I was feeling guilty as I had missed my run on Thursday and Friday so decided to do a bit extra this morning. Strapped my small water bottle to my running bum bag and off I went.

Hadn't really thought out what I was going to run which is stupid I know but I like surprises now and again. Up one of my regular routes which is now marked out as a 4 lane running track 500m, turned right along in front of the school, no kids yippee. Then I'm at the junction, if I turn right I'm heading back into housing estates, turn left and I'm heading out into the country, well I didn't need to toss a coin now did I?!? I'm heading off toward Westhill and there is a right hand turn which will take me back into the city along the Lang Stracht, translated Long Straight, and it is, it goes on forever but the first part of it is open countryside and lovely on a quiet Sunday morning with no commuter traffic. The birds were having a party in the hedges, it was quite a noisy affair too. ;)

I'm not giving it my best speed as it was the first longer run I had done apart from Glen Muich but it was a run/walk anyway, this morning I was hoping to do it without any walking breaks. I'm coming up to the 7K mark now I have two options again, turn right and head home which gives me a 8K run or keep on going, well as in the old song "Keep right on to the end of the road" so I did. I've now got a bit of a down hill but my legs are feeling tired and I'm not able to take much advantage I'm affraid, never mind, I keep telling myself it was never going to be a fast one. So I plodded on and you'll be relieved that I won't waffle on any more. Finished my run 10.03K in 1:11:38 only slowed down once to get across Springfield Rd as the traffic was busy, all going to church. I've got about 5 minutes to skim off this time to get back to last year's 10K, but I'm hoping there is loads of summer days left to try it. I've still to conquer Jacobs Ladder in a oner too. There just isn't enough running days in a week is there?

Happy running everyone, stay safe, warmer days carry water if you think you may need it :)

Well done - v impressed. As you always say - it is not about the time it is about getting out there. My next goal is 10 k - up to about 6kish. This heat makes it very difficult to be speedy- so i go at my comfortable 7/8 clicks an hour.

Good advice on water - should have done that this morning:-)

Hi suzy well done on your progress, its amazing how far we all manage once we have reached that 5K mark there seems to be no stopping us, but take it steady and extend your distance gradually that way you won't get any injuries. Water is important, if you feel cramp starting in your legs its time for a drink. I didn't need this morning until I got home but was glad I had taken it, its an insurance to comfortable running in my opinion. Good luck with your bridge to 10K.

WELL DONE YOU! Sounds like a brilliant run. I am beginning to think the odd run - just for the fun of it - mixed up between the sessions may be a good idea. I just put 'Dumb ways to die' on my MP3 player so will try just running for the fun of it, when it is a bit cooler!

Aaah Beek your a women with the same ideas as me, running should be fun, if its not enjoyable it becomes hard and a real chore. I like to mix up my running and do some HIIT sometimes (not much this year tho) some hill work and then a longer run. Its the same with my exercise classes at the gym, I have a good mix there too that way I'm more likely to stick with it.

What is HIIT? Never heard of it!

High Intensive Interval Training - To me its a sprint for 100m then 200M slower to recover and repeat. You need a good warm up walk and jog before you start this. Then 4-6 repeats, 6 is the most I have ever managed, I then do about 10 minutes walk/jog to cool down. Loads of stretching after too as its hard on your leg muscles. Its a wonderful calories burner, working long after you have finished the routine and it helps you get a faster pace.

Thank you - for enlightening me - there is a lot of new terminology in this game! When you say sprint I assume you mean flat out running? Not done any of that yet, sounds good but for a cool day! (and I still need to buy a shockabsorber bra!) I always do the stretching afterwards and this does help a lot. I use the warm up section of S/F for my cool down walk home.

I don't measure or time my runs yet. Well, not true really - I have measured my route on Google-maps at 4.8 km. My pedometer only reads 2.6km but I assume Google-maps will be more accurate. I'm not into stats yet because I don't have the equipment. to do it. Maybe one day!

That's a faster time than I have ever managed! Well done. I did a very slow 10k race this morning...reckon 1hr 21.... The sun and heat were so punishing and limited shady areas. if it wasn't for the tail runner I might have just given up. But on a positive note I finished!! :)

Well done Ali, its hard going when its hot and sunny. At least the weather conditions for me this morning were perfect, overcast and quite cool at just 15C although it felt a lot warmer, I'm not sure the Garmin temp is correct or not.
