It's been a while since I blogged - life just getting in the way but I have kept up running (mostly) and still check in here now and again. However back in March I was spotted by another mum at our school gate and she buttonholed me with 'You're a runner (me a runner!), would you like to do the race for life with us?' I was so flattered by being considered a runner - really quite a compliment to my shambling jog that I said yes immediately, thinking I could do 5 k fairly respectably with a bit of training. THEN I found out it was the 10 k I had signed up for! Opps! But committed by then so off to find a B210k. I didn't really find a podcast I got on with so mostly just tried to follow the programme to my own music. Have to admit it was hard - my legs just seem to think that 45 minutes running is plenty - thank you very much.
However the race was yesterday. I had been hoping it would not be too hot but it was absolutely FREEZING at the start. Couldn't wait to get going just to warm up a bit! The atmosphere was amazing, very relaxed and supportive and quite emotional at times reading the messages people had pinned to their T-shirts. The first 5k was fine but the second was tougher as expected. Fortunately hubby and No. 2 child started turning up around every corner every time I was thinking about walking for a bit.
Finished in 76 mins which I considered not too bad for a short legged, not so young, new runner. The fastest of our group finished in just over an hour which was brilliant. And we have raised over £600 for a very good cause. And the kids were suitably impressed tho both admitted they were relieved I had not come last! Not a bad mornings work and all thanks to C25K!
