Knee issues - it's not good!

I have a very painfully right knee. Had trouble with an injury on the left and had physio 18 months ago and it's not grumbled at all. But this right one has been coming on, and now can't be ignored. I started the physio exercises to help and it seemed a bit better. I put in cycle rides so I could rest the knee but keep my fitness level up. Having thought it was feeling much better went for a lovely run around our local lake. Bit of a hill at one point, coming down was very uncomfortable managed to get round but needed ibroprofin jell when I got back.

I am gutted, nothing gives me the buzz like running and it keeps all the stresses of life at bay.

What am I going to do?

Oh I do sympathise with you. You must be feeling terrible. :-( Have you spoken to your doc/physio yet? Maybe just a knee support and an absolutely flat route might do? I do hope you get it sorted.

Thanks so much, I agree will keep it flat for a while and I am going to get on my bike in between runs and try a support. X

Sounds very frustrating - but maybe hang on to the fact that you've had knee problems before and have got them sorted out. Downhill is hard work for knees. Getting some medical advice might be a good idea - as long as they're knowledgeable about running.

Hope you find some helpful support soon. :)

Thanks green legs, yes most of my running is quite flat but this route I use when on longer runs has quite a hill. I am going to go back to the flat for a bit if I can run or bike if I can't. It is frustrating but it doesn't have to be back to the couch for me. X

Oh no - so sorry to hear this. Was the previous knee injury caused by running? Were those physio exercises specifically for running? I hope you can get it sorted out, perhaps by seeing your gp or a sports physio. All the best with it.

No the earlier injury was not to do with running and felt slightly different, but having looked at other people who have had a problem the exercises seem to be the same, to strengthen the muscles around the knee. I am going to work hard on the exercises before I shell out for physio again! I am feeling a little more upbeat about it now, and went for an 8 mile bike that was quite hilly and it didn't affect my knee at all. I really didn't want to loose my fitness by resting and have to start all over again.

I really appreciate your support.

Thanks x

Really good the bike ride was ok - seems surprising doesn't it! But I suppose the actions are just that bit different. Good anyway. :)
