for about a year now i’ve had excessive thick sticky / or frothy mucus , sometimes difficult to clear and so then my throat feels as if it’s closing , i am on Famatodine for gerd , i also take montelukast, ventolin inhalers and nebuliser, also spireva respimat inhaler and seratide 500 accuhaler , i’ve been on the same inhalers for years and i’m struggling recently with breathlessness and this cough , i have got asthma and bronchiectasis , and under active thyroid, and high blood pressure, im having an echocardiogram on monday to see if the excess fluid/ mucus is caused by my lungs or by my heart , this cough can become scary and go on for what seems ages , any advice appreciated.

Carbosisteine 3 times a day is excellent to clear mucus. On prescription from GP. xxSheila 💕

Hi Nanny1086.

It’s horrible that you have this mucous to deal with.

Are you drinking enough clear fluids during the day ? A good amount of water through the day can really help help to shift it.

Carbocisteine can help help to thin it too.

Have you been taught any mucous clearing exercising? If not perhaps you could ask your local Respiratory Physio ?

Go well

Pauline

hi Pauline , apologies for not replying ( my husband has got alzimers and needed me more than usual ) , i do have carbocisteine and yes i’ve taught the breathing chest clearance exercise , normally i do cope with it ,,, but taking the carbocisteine etc has meant i seem to be coughing and chest clearance all day , however i do tend to sit a lot as i do puzzles etc with my husband , recently we have taken to going for a short walk and tagging seems to help ,

Best way to get rid mucus is breath out very quickly to vibrate your lungs which gets it up or get a device off amazon the you blow in to and it shakes it out your lungs very quickly

Good luck with your scans, I hope you get the answers your looking for. My sister suffers with excess mucus and swears by drinking really cold water, apparently it thins it out so its easier to cough up and your mucus thins out to make it easier to deal with. Good luck chook 👍

Perhaps ask the doctor if a sputum sample might be advised. John

The bown mucus that I was coughing up every day was caused by the irritation in my throat - that's what one pulmonologist told me. The throat lining. He prescribedthe flutter thing. After months of enduring this, coughig up junk at any time of day, no matter where I as, even in drs office, it suddenly stopped. If I cough up anything now it is yellow and comes from my sinus.
