before I start I want to encourage anyone on this site to get your colonoscopy! Don’t wait. For me I had gotten bad news. I’m still numb. The colonoscopy when fine overall. But the results shocked me. Doctor found a huge 23 cm mass in my sigmoid colon. I’m was not expecting that at all. I have a little bit of Diverticulitis in my ascending colon but no protruding or causing issues.
He took a biopsy and told me to schedule an appointment with his office. I need a ct scan and meet with the surgeon. He said it was cancer. My sigmoid needs to be removed. I am sad beyond words. Not a smoker. Not a heavy drinker. What in the world. 😭☹️

Better thanks. I think I needed to rest more. Plus I read it wrong. Large mass found 23 cm from anal verge. Not 23 cm mass. My mind was all over the place. I Just gotta put an H on my chest and handle it. Schedule the CT and keep the faith. Ain’t giving up yet
It should say on the pathology report which is usually a week after biopsy. I was stage one colon cancer and had my colon partially respected a year ago. Now I’m in surveillance mode. All about early detection.
He shouldn’t have said it was unless he actually had the pathology report. Make sure to get a copy for your records? Did your primary dr run a cea blood test? Sorry for all the questions and sorry you are going through this.
How big was the polyp and was it on a stalk? Did they cut out the polyp? My son had one cut out today and was 35mm so I’m freaking out. Now waiting on path report 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I appreciate the questions. No blood test was performed nor stated when I was in recovery today. I was thinking he was going off of what he saw in the past. But I guess he shouldn’t have said cancer before the results came back
Im so sorry to hear your news, i pray for you throughout this nightmare,, Life is very un- fair. HOPEFULLY YOU WILL GET THE FULL ALL CLEAR AFTER SURGERY WITHOUT NEED FOR ANY OTHER TREATMENTS.Regards Carol
Hi Txbj1, I am sorry you got such a shock but at least you are on your way to having treatment. I agree a colonoscopy is the way to detect any problems with our colons. I hope someone here has more knowledge than me and can let you know how it is for them. Wishing you all the best with your future treatment. Irene
The exact same thing just happened to my husband. Doctors should NOT be telling patients that they have cancer until they have the pathology report back. I don't care what they have seen in the past or their experience. That ended up being the week from hell until we got the results. My husband was lucky enough to get the CT scan done the next day and met with the surgeon the same week. He went in for a routine colonoscopy and was told they found a cancerous tumor in his cecum, plus was told he has UC. After he got the results found out it was inflammation in the cecum and not a mass. Now we are dealing with the UC diagnosis.
I am glad to hear that! Yesterday I was all over the place in my mind. because even though I was sitting up and waiting for the DR I was still kind out of it due to the anesthesia, so hearing that word cancer heightened my emotions even more. I am much better today and ready to gather much info as possible before even going under the knife. I hope my pathology report is negative too. Grant it I will need to get scheduled for the CT- Thanks for sharing! 🙂
Back in May he went in for a routine colonoscopy and was told they couldn't complete it because he wasn't cleaned out enough. A week after that he started getting bright red blood with his stool. He went back to the Dr and they said it was a hemorrhoid and scheduled another colonoscopy. Went in July for the 2nd colonoscopy and when going #2 it's been a lot of blood and puss since, not really any feces. The Dr said he has UC, he was given Mesalamine tablets and suppositories. They are really not working. Dr ordered stool tests and are waiting for those results. So we are waiting to hear from the Dr on next treatments.
Sorry to hear this Txbj1. Message me if you would like to. I have recently been through similar. Just waiting to start my adjuvant chemo now on Wednesday. My surgeon also said I had cancer at the colonoscopy but he is very experienced and he knew what hr was looking at. He did say biopsy would confirm but he knew and sadly he was right. Mine was 12cm from anal verge and I didnt need a stoma so hopefully you shouldn't need one either x
I'm so sorry if I already asked?? I can't remember. My mind is all over the place with worry.... but I'd like to know what your symptoms were? what made you finally get tested? how bad and how long did the symptoms go on?? thanks. hope you're doing better now. please keep us posted, if you can 🙂
