Colonoscopy Prep

Hello, I am prepping this weekend for the procedure on Monday morning. This will be my third colonoscopy. Both of my maternal grandparents had colon cancer so I started at age 45 and go every 5 years.

My prep consists of Dulcolax and Miralax mixed with sports drinks. One 238 gram bottle of miralax with 64 ounces of sport drink. Has anyone else done this prep? I started last night and the prep goes through the weekend. I’m used the the one that you start the day before.

I will be doing two 238 grams and one 119 grams of miralax. I need to do the the third due to constipation. I have had to take laxatives for the last four months for a bowel movement. Prior to that I at least had one every other day. I eat a lot of fruits and vegetables so not sure why I am having the problem.

My stools have been soft, wide and flat. And looks like there is blood spots mixed in it. I do have internal hemorrhoids so my guess is that where the blood is coming from. A lot is not adding up but with my family history o will feel better once this procedure is done.

I have been pretty exhausted. I also have a cousin that has had rectal cancer.

Looking forward to Monday :)

Hi CHA85,

Thank you for posting in Colon Cancer Connected.

I hear your story and family history. My eyes are wide open😲. Have you had genetic testing? If not, please do. You do have a family history going on. The genetic test would provide a lot of information for you.

We are about the same age and I discovered at age 49 that our family has Lynch Syndrome which is hereditary. When they found my hereditary biomarker, everyone on my father's side of the family had to get genetic testing to see if they had the same biomarker I had which is MSI-h. I had stage 4 metastatic colon cancer and we have a family history of cancer as well. I got genetic testing before I started my first chemo therapy. The genetic testing let us know what biomarkers were involved with me and also was the key to getting me into a clinical trial which proved to be the game changer. Because I have Lynch Syndrome, I have an annual colonoscopy, CT scan and an endoscopy every 3 years as my surveillance.

Now you're colonoscopy prep. I have not done that prep. I do the one called Suprep which is one for the 2-day procedures. I guess if your prep works and it's what the doctor told you to use, then go for it. I would really like to hear how it goes for you. If it gets your colon in the right state to get a good clean scan, great.

Also, I don't know about you, but I do look forward the the deep relaxing nap you get. I find it so relaxing.

I do wish you the best in finding answers. Please do let us know how it goes. And really think about that genetic testing. That's really a big deal with the hereditary stuff that can be going on.

All the best and good luck Monday👍👍🙏🙏🤟
