Pregnancy & bowel cancer

I was 39weeks pregnant, thinking I was health otherwise. Though I had been having problems going to the toilet.. for weeks. I’d tried suppositories and laxatives from doc but nope and it was all put down to constipation during pregnancy.

I thought I was having contractions and went to hospital to be told nope but I was in severe agony. They kept me in. Early hours on the Sunday I took seriously unwell, I vomited feaces. It was then they realised something was wrong. I was taken for an emergency c-section and when they opened me puss was everywhere. They had to operate straight away.

I had part of my bowel removed and also part of my rectum. I had the surgery at 8am and woke up after 7pm that night. I was unaware of what happened. Waking up to be told this was mental and I have a stoma now also. I spent 2 weeks in hospital with my baby by my side. The day before I was discharged I was informed that a tumour had been removed and the horrible dressed C word was said. I’m 30, I have an 8yr old also.

I’m at an advantage I suppose that they got the tumour out. There was a cyst growing over it which had burst. That was the puss when they c-sectioned me. I had a meeting with the consultant 2 weeks after I got home, I don’t need chemo but they do need to look inside the colon. So that’s my next step.

Basically my baby saved me and the medical teams who took care of me, I’m so thankful.

Bloody hell, you have been through a lot! What a shock, I hope you and your beautiful baby are doing well and that all will be well when your colon is examined.

Awful. What a lot to go through when you’ve just had a baby. Amazing that you didn’t need chemo. Good luck.

Wow, Libra87, you've been through a lot of "stuff" in a very short time and with a newborn baby to care for, as well! You sound very grateful and appear to have a very, very good attitude. I'm glad that they got your cancerous tumour out and that you lived through the experience. Sounds like you were very, very ill. I hope your year ahead is peaceful and you manage your colostomy bag with ease. It will frustrate you on occasion, I'm sure, but it also is saving your life, in a way! Best to you. Please keep us posted every so often on how you are doing with baby and in general. Thanks for sharing!
