Today’s the Day!

Good morning! My husband, who has Richter’s, is finally getting his hip replacement done today. I have watched him be in pain for almost a year- and I’m so glad he is healthy enough to get it done. He had to stop the Pirtobrutnib one week ago and will hold for another week post-op. He was allowed to continue the Venetoclax. I have been so anxious about “what’s going to happen while he’s off the meds” but this morning, I feel a sense of calmness. Wishing everyone a good day, and if you think about it, say a quick prayer or good thought for Pete! Much appreciated!❤️

I’ve just had to stop Zanubrutinib for nearly a week after just starting it 5 weeks before to treat a fairly aggressive remission. This was to allow emergency abdominal surgery. Thankfully it seems to have been fine and I’m sure his will be too 😊

Venetoclax is a very good mono treatment (a real heavy lifter) and I was on mono V for quite some time with good effects.

Best wishes and having had a hubbie that’s had this op, make sure all the equipment is in place because it’s tough to use ordinary chairs etc. The worst part my hubbie found was having to sleep on his back (something I’ve just experienced myself) 🥴

I wish him all the best. I can imagine how much pain he has been in that he felt he had to take this chance to go off of therapy to get the hip replacement.

I'm not sure how they track Richters progression in the study. Maybe you could explain that for us.

I wish you all the best, too, Laurie. It's very hard for the caregiver as well, I'm sure.

I have had a hip replacement after my CLL diagnosis. It was much, much easier than a knee replacement. I was not being treated at the time but am now (on Pirtobrutinib as well).

He just needs to get physical therapy and start walking.

That almost made me cry. Some days are harder than others to be the caregiver. I’m a nurse so everyone depends on me for all the answers. I feel your strength and compassion through your post - thank you.

I am a retired oncology nurse with cll. I've seen the devastation created by the lack of loving support. I've also seen the enormous strength loving support gives. It feeds our heart, mind, and very soul. One of the doctors I worked with said, about 70%+ ( to the best of my recollection) of fighting cancer is a positive attitude. For Pete, you are a tremendous source of positivity. Keep up the good work and, please, keep us posted. Remember, take care of yourself first. You need to stay strong to be strong. ❤️

not sure it was necessary, and I think the recovery is slower, but I chose resurfacing rather than THR. I did not want to risk messing with the marrow. No doctor suggested that to me, just my idea.

Just interested to see why you are not sure it was necessary? Re-surfacing was not an option for him.
