Hi All

Well after 14 years on watch and wait treatment starts for me on the 9th July.

Obinutuzumab and Venetoclax 12 x 28 days Cycles.

I will be at the Churchill in Oxford even though I live in Northants.

One question which I hope I will get sorted next week, if I have an infection and told to go to

Hospital it is 25mins to Northants General Hospital but 1 hour 25 mins to get to Oxford.

As time might matter NGH is closest, has anyone else experienced this ?

I do know they have an emergency assessment unit at NGH.

Any thought's ?

Best wishes Jules The Flyer.

Any A&E should be able to deal with you in case you have a fever. They all follow the same protocol and they all have to administer antibiotics within an hour of arriving. If you have sepsis, they usually treat you in ICU and if you are neutropenic, you usually get a side room where you are on your own. Does your nearest hospital have any haematologists? It might be good to get your Oxford team to contact them.

I was treated at St Barts. It is one of the biggest cancer hospitals in the UK but they do not have an A&E department so I always ended up elsewhere. Are they the same trust? I figured out it was a bit easier if that was the case (sharing information).

You should be given a haematology emergency number which you can call 24/7 and you can pass it to any medical professional.

I think in case you become unwell with fever, you should go to the nearest A&E as time is of an essence.

It's a great treatment, I wish you all the best on your journey and hope it is boring!🙂

You’re usually given a card outlining possible treatment risks Jules and this can be presented at any A&E. I’ve had the same issue of my treating hospital not being my closest (or in my Trust area). They simply ring the treating unit for advice. Any ambulance is duty bound to take you to the closest A&E too.

Best wishes for your upcoming treatment. Hope it goes smoothly and without need for attention for any infection.

Regards,

Newdawn

For V+O you should have

1: Patient warning card for Venetoclax - TLS

medicines.org.uk/emc/rmm/22...

2: "Rapid Response", "Alert Card" or something similar for Neutropenic Sepsis.

3: Booklet "A guide to your Chronic Lymphocytic Leukaemia (CLL) treatment with VENCLYXTO (Venetoclax) and obinutuzumab" by Abbive.

4: A dosing chart / calendar. (NHS Norfolk and Norwich)

UK NHS documents for V+O
