Thanks Jackie, this is a good chance to get a fix on things and hear from both the consultants and clinical nurse specialists how treatment and care is being provided in different regions. There are some very positive developments
Canada is a bit behind the curve with the non chemo treatments from what I know (I could be wrong now) and that is such a pity. So much suffering and sometimes, no need for it.
Occasionally the drug companies don't help us. For example by selecting a very restricted group for the clinical trials and then it can be argued that there is none or little evidence of cost effectiveness in other groups so the drug is not approved. So frustrating, especially as the trials can take many years to show significant benefits to patients.
Research has also really slowed down because of COVID, not just the practical research but with approvals for trials being focused almost exclusively on COVID other studies have languished and not got off the ground. As if that wasn't enough, charity income streams have dried up as fund raising events have been cancelled and they are struggling with potential deficits. Difficult times
Jackie yes Canada moves at a snails pace for sure with change , we have free health care but it’s not the greatest , it’s reactive and no proactive
Service is adequate and or below adequate , there is no competition so Most doctors here don’t care as they will have more partients to see no matter what their service level is like.
I would definitely like to see a 2 tier health care system in Canada
Lots of money gets caught up in administration and bureaucracy and not enough to the hospitals , patients and people who need the care.
Get rid of the dinosaurs and let’s have some progression
