Initially they were treating him for an infection and no antibiotics were touching it. It was only when they got the bone marrow culture showing Hodgkins transformation that he turned a corner. The ABVD chemo was a game changer. He had two chemos in hospital and will now have them has an outpatient. He enjoyed his first night at home in his own bed and we celebrated with fish and chips and Prosecco (we know how to live 😀).
He is very weak and will need to rebuild his strength. He has lost a lot of weight. He has set himself a target for today of shaving off the beard that has grown over the last 7 weeks (he doesn’t normally have a beard). At the weekend he is having his hair cut very short so that he can manage it when it falls out with the chemo (this set of drugs will cause hair loss).
Apparently the RT transformation to Hodgkins is even less common than the transformation to non-Hodgkins. His consultant has said he has plenty of other things he can use if the chemo doesn’t work (it seems to be working at the moment). He also warned us about reading anything more than 1-2 years old as there have been significant developments.
So a happy day here - even the doctors admitted that initially they thought he would not be coming home. There were some very scary moments at times.

Such good news Beryl and I bet those fish ‘n chips and a glass of Prosecco together were like the feast of all feasts! 😊 That and our own bed is the best Christmas present possible.
It’s been a hard, long slog for you both but I’m glad he has an attentive medical team and the cause is being addressed.

When I was having my second Obinutuzumab infusion, I met a very young girl who was going through ABVD for Hodgkins, it seemed very harsh, it was giving her a lot of nausea and she had lost her hair by then so I can only begin to imagine how your husband must be feeling...but when we spoke about her cancer, it seemed the treatment can be harsh but very effective at eradicating the cancer.

What a ride you have been on, but to be rewarded, at this stage, with fish, chips and Prosecco has to be a little icing in the cake! Hubby certainly seems to be on the ball to take his beard off already. Will need more f&c’s after that! All the very best xxx

There are places to get fried fish here, but i don't think there is a place for the authentic fish and chips. Good eating (if not healthiest) is a gift anyone deserves for homecoming.

So glad to hear your good news that you have a diagnosis. It’s great that the doctors feel there is a treatment and that it works well. Fish and chips and proscetto sounds like a wonderful celebration to me. I made a wonderful pumpkin cheesecake and a carrot cake to take for Thanksgiving. And the next day we were treated to lobster tail. Food does help make us feel better. But sadly I need to get off the sweets and the rich food.
