As none of us are qualified to comment on blood test results it would be wrong of us to offer any sort of discussion on your levels. Hopefully you have a follow up appointment booked with your doctor to discuss these and who should then arrange further testing as they do potentially need looking into further.

Hi Thanks for your reply think it could drink as I had one bottle of red wine a night for as long as I can remember but have decided no more and hopefully results should improve as I have signs of any ill health but have had health check as was 65 a few wks ago hence results do you think that help

Omitting alcohol will certainly help any potential underlying liver condition and hopefully you will have further follow up. Elevations of iron in the liver can be due to various things but there is a condition called Genetic Haemochromatosis which can be absolutely silent until late on and it leads to liver damage. If that is there but never identified and you've been drinking every day on top of that then you definitely need further tests - scans of your liver to check for any signs of damage, a specific genetic blood test to check for Haemochromatosis.

Further tests needed I would suggest and in the interim look after your liver and stay off the booze.

Certainly will its just habit but I have strong will power so just a warning is enough for me to abstain and change diet as also eat red meat 4/5 times a week again habit so will try a more balanced diet and will eat chicken pheasant etc and occasionally a fillet steak really appreciate your response and take care in these crazy times all the very best

Hello, welcome to the forum. Katie is correct in her comments: further investigation is required and alcohol will exacerbate any underlying liver condition. One set of results does not prove or disprove anything but should not be ignored and should certainly be repeated.

I presume it is your GP that has done these tests - hopefully you have an appointment to discuss the results. Depending on the outcome you may need to be referred to a liver specialist(hepatologist), especially if haemochromatosis is confirmed.

Keep us posted !

every reply is correct, as we are a support group with years of experience but unable to comment on direct bloods. But you do need to A refrain from the drink, B change your diet C book an appointment to see your Dr. The results could be a one off spike as the iron content is represented in the ferritin level, i too had high ferritin at one stage. Then have another set of bloods done, and see if you can get your LFTS tested, even if its while you wait for your appointment, they will also give indictaors ie ALT, AST etc etc. If your bloods stay elevated then you may require more investigation ie fibrascan, ultrasound etc. The hope is that while refraining from drink, too much red meat (high iron) and a tidy up of your diet that the bloods return to normal. But you need to make an appointment to discuss results, get another set of bloods, then see how they look. That will indicate more any acute, one off rise or more chronic rise..

i have hepatitis B and D.My ferritin level was 650 in may2020,and 1050 in october.I think this is genetic. My fibroscan showed in august 9.7,in november 13.6...I try to remain calm, but i cannot do it.I know that somehow this is the end...it will happen sooner or later.I did interferon pegasys therapy 1 year, and now all my bloodtests looking like i have a 15years old's liver. It worked, but deep inside me i know that this is jus for the moment. So,keep your head up,and try not to think too much about it...
