It’s higher than it should be, but if you’ll see other forum members who have been admitted with a far far higher number

As an example, mine was 1.5 orders of magnitude higher for a year. If the docs are happy, try not to panic :)

Mine is 172 down from 250 almost 1 year ago.. Not going down enough for the hospitals liking unfortunately. 44 sounds managable with good diet and no alcohol.

I'm not sure what can you do to get the levels down

My liver issues started with high billirubin. The normal range is 5-12 mines was 45 feb 24. I was also told by my gp it was ok. They referred me to gastro team and after several tests i was told i have cirrohsis stage 1. I started to work on my diet. My billirubin was 32 in feb and jst had more bloods done yest to see if its came down again. This isnt to scare you but my billirubin is my only symptom and has been since i was 16yrs old. Im now 44. I was told for years i had guilberts disease. Now im dealing with so much more. Ask for more tests etc and to be referred.

How do you reduce the bilirubin number apart from total alcohol abstinence and removal or reduction of other stress on the liver? I dont know that myself.

My high billirubin wasnt alcohol related but i stopped drinking, lost weight, excercised daily. Im very early stages but im hoping my billirubin is now back to normal range.

It may stay elevated if you have cirrhosis as that may be the best your damaged liver can filter. Slightly elevated is not in itself dangerous it’s when it starts getting to jaundice causing levels it becomes a bigger problem.

I had Gilbert’s so my “normal” could be elevated, even before I did any damage.

Perhaps it's a case of if you aren't yellow then mellow!

Hi there, my bilirubin number in hospital 8 months ago kept climbing, it peaked at 480!!!yes that right. 480!!!! Now 8 months later is 46 (2 months ago) it's another confusing thing but I have done loads of research. The 'normal' range in numbers like we get after a blood test should be between 0.5 and 20. However 15 years ago it was 'normal' between 1 and 32. If your husband likes coffee, drink really really strong coffee, I have 3 teaspoons of nescafe in a brew and drink 2 of them a day even though it's not v nice. This really helps biliruben to come down. I also have plenty of fibre from apples and grapes, no alcohol whatsoever and moderate excersise it will drop in no time 👍
