Are high doses of prednisone dangerous for my cirrhosis?

I recently started getting what looked like canker sores which eventually covered the inside of both cheeks, tongue, and gums. I saw someone in my doctors office who gave me dexamethasone and carafate mouth rinses. They did nothing. I saw my dentist, who was completely puzzled and sent me to an oral surgeon, who put me on methylprednisolone 6 day pack. It looked like it was going away by the 6th day, but then came back with a vengeance. They did a biopsy and it came back as Lichenoid mucositis, consistent with lichen planus.

I've already done 14 days of 80 mg daily of prednisone. Today, I started with 60 mg per day for another 14 days, it decreases every 14 days.

I can't help wondering what this must be doing to my liver. I haven't been able to stay on a decent eating plan because I wasn't able to chew for 12 weeks.

Seeing my doctor on Thursday.

The dentist are aware of what medication you can have and not have with cirrhosis and they wouldn't prescribe .. my friend had the same condition as you pre transplant and he was on loads of meds ... I was on steroids pre transplant for chest infections because I have asthma

I hope your condition clears up quickly 😊

Thank you so much for your reply. My mind is a little more at ease.

If you are diagnosed with autoimmune hepatitis as I was you're put straight onto prednisolone (a steroid) to stop any inflammation so I wouldn't have thought that they'd prescribe something that would damage it further
