Good morning all. Just a quick update on my cirrhosis diagnosis caused by alcohol, smoking and obesity. I'm 18 months Alcohol and Cigarettes free now and lost nearly 3 stone through stopping drinking alcohol, smoking, eating healthy and getting plenty of exercise. I feel a lot healthier now than I have for a long time. You too can still live a normal life as long as you listen to your doctors advice, attend appointments regularly and get rid of the cause that put you there in the first place.
Thanks for listening and Take care x

Thanks for your reply. You're right about taking care of our bodies, because we don't realise how much damage we do to them until it's too late. All the best
Well done fella.....yes I've done the same...followed my consultants word to the letter.,....I cant do any more.I hope you continue to do well. We all keep going on this sometimes difficult liver journey . But things can and do improve.
Thanks for your reply Chris... Well done to you also. Yes we can only do as we're advised but also need to be determined to succeed our goal. All the best
That's fantastic, I wish I'd known how much damage I'd done before ending up so bad I need a transplant. BUT I'm doing what I can and have been off the booze since Nov 2021. All bloods are on the up so who knows??All the best x
Thanks for your reply,It is a big wake up call but if you listen to your doctors advice, attend appointments, eat healthy and most of all stay away from that toxic poison (if alcohol is the reason) then there's a chance for your liver to function normally again even if it's scarred. It's amazingly resilient-
Great news from your goodself. You have given up two of the most destroying, but easily bought from anywhere, things - namely alcohol and cigarettes. To give both of these up at the same time desrves a "Very Well Done". You are obviously feeling the benefit and losing weight as well - wow, an amazing post and others can take inspiration from your story. Keep on going and good luck for a stress free and healthy life.
Thank you so much for your kind reply. I hope my post gives people that confidence and determination to get themselves back to a better and healthier lifestyle. It can work out...,you just have to believe in yourself and take one step at a time. My doctor was amazed and also delighted with my outcome, especially without having counselling and going it alone. Hearing people telling me how well and more healthier looking I am has given me more determination and confidence to work harder and to stop this horrible disease from getting any worse . There is that chance of living a normal life but you have to believe in yourself and to go that little bit further. Again thanks for your response and kind words P.S sorry for the long post.
That's good u have obviously got a better doctor who just doesn't seem to have the slightest interest in my condition,so I'm thinking of changing doctors and starting to look at trials myself, anyway good for u that's really well done
That's really unprofessional for any doctor not to have any interest in such a serious condition in which liver disease really is. I assume you're on about your GP. If so you should get to see a Gastroenterologist or Hepatologist at hospital. They should give you the best advice and help needed. You can also contact BLT nurses who will put you on the right track. Hope all goes well and thanks for your reply
Hi Zack, are you under a hospital consultant for your cirrhosis? The NICE guidelines stipulate that a patient with cirrhosis should (as a minimum) have 6 monthly bloods and a 6 monthly scan to check for any changes in the liver, lumps and bumps plus to check for fluid, direction of portal veinous flow etc. There is no treatment for cirrhosis, only for the side effects that arise due to it. It's important to address what ever caused the damage in the first place to halt progression and maybe reverse some of the damage done.
Well done on staying abstinent. I know how difficult it is. I gave up the cigarettes too along time back. Even though I do still feel very ill on my decompensated journey, I do get moments of reflection where I’m so thankful & happy to be away from alcohol. Great not to be a slave to the demon anymore. Recovery is great and I hope to get some quality of life back with this disease as others on here have said.
