Group 10k/60 minutes: first run of Week 3

No excuses this morning. OK it was cold, grey and not so inviting outside but then it's February in England.

Am I the only one who finds the shorter runs hard to get my head around? I understand why they're there but to go to all the trouble of warming up etc for just 15-20 minutes... Guess I'll wait until I need to go to the Post Office, I can run there and back in 20 minutes and it'll feel like a bonus rather than a slog.

Decided on the 30 minute run with NRC's 'Run with Headspace' to keep me motivated. I've done it before but a long time ago. It was a soothing background.

Ran a slightly different route - along the seawall until it became too muddy to proceed, then back along the waterfront to where I'd meet with the Parkrunners, then back home, popping into the high street for a look (they replaced the road surface outside my house overnight and I wanted to see how far the renovations went).

It was all pretty slow and sedate which suited me fine.

I suppose I could do a short 20 minute interval run and stretch myself a bit but it's good to keep extending the distance whilst not ending up feeling exhausted.

I'm getting there.

Yes I too think that short runs are a bit pointless after all the faff of getting togged up to go out etc But Coach Bennett has sort of convinced me that they’re worth it!

When I've done the short runs I sort of make a compromise in my head: instead of my normal running trousers I wear trackies and sort of pretend I'm not really running. Otherwise I reach the 15 minute etc mark and think 'may as well carry on'😂

I’m about a week ahead of you (but behind in posting!)…I’m now picking a NRC speed run to use for the 20 minute short runs. I’ve also done an out and back…ran the short run out, then walked back.

Short runs are useful when time is short…before a food shop for example!
