Run 06/03 - 50 minutes

Hiya,

Today was my second 50 minute run in the plan to get to 60 minutes. As always I Jeffed my run (04:30 / 00:30) and as is 'normal' for me these days, I just could not find 'my' pace. I have absolutely no feeling as to how fast I am running, something which is bothering me more and more. Either I run too fast or I run too slow (see my previous post - you do can run TOO slow).

Either way, it was (is) a really fine day outside. Dressed a bit warmer as my weather app said it felt like 0°C, but I dressed a tad too warm as there was no wind and the sun was shining nice and warm.

The start was a bit with hiccups as I got myself a panic attack. I suffer fron anxiety disorder and I can get a panic attack from the weirdest things. Today it was because I was afraid I did not know anything to think about. As I said: weird. Anyhow, shuffled along for a little bit until I could push the panic attack away again. It popped up halfway in the run again when I struggled with my breathing, but could push it away again then too.

At about 20 minutes in my run I finally came into a nice running rhythm and felt for a full 5 minutes a sort of trance. Very nice! It did not last though, but I could keep the rhythm luckily.

After 40 minutes I started struggling though, getting exhausted. The last 10 minutes I felt as if I was dragging myself further instead of running. But I kept going and finished my 50 minutes with 6 km!

Coming home and seeing my stats, I knew why I struggled. I had run at an average pace of 7,2 km/h (including 10 Jeffing walk breaks of 30 seconds), while my comfortable pace is 6,5 km/h or so. I had run too fast!

I really struggle with finding and feeling my pace. Either I run too fast or too slow. I really have to do something about it, but what...

Either way, 50 minutes dusted and done. Coming week are 30 minute runs again and next weekend it should be 55 minutes. Kinda scared for it and wondering if I not better repeat the 50 minutes 1 more extra time just to be sure...?

Cheers, Evy

You did it so you are sure, shame about the panic attack though but well done for keeping control and working through it, as to whether to repeat or not, see how you feel on the day

Thanks, I normally now have 3 runs of 30 minutes this week and I'm going to see how they go. Whether I can keep a better control of my pace or not. If I can find a better control of my pace (slower than Saturday but not too slow), then I'll go for the 55 minutes on Sunday. If my pace is still jumping around... well I'll see. Because I do know that if I try to run 55 minutes at the same pace as Saturday, I'll certainly suffer.

That was a good time considering your run and Jeffing.,but as you say you felt it was too fast . I think I would repeat it but that’s me try and go at the speed your comfortable with. Doesn’t your watch bleep every km with your time and you would know If you were going too fast. Just now I am going slower about 8.35 m/k to try and get heart rate down and felt quite comfortable with that but heart rate was still high.

What about a longer walking break ? Hope you get it worked out and have a good weekend🤗

This week I normally have 3 runs of 30 minutes (if life does not interfere). I'll see if I can try to keep my pace slower (but not too slow). If I can get a better control of my pace, I will probably try the 55 minutes on Sunday. If not... well we'll see. My watch indeed buzzes every kilometer, but I have now also set it to show my pace permanently on the watch screen in real time. I don't know if real time will be ok or if I better but average pace. But I'll see in my run this afternoon. I dislike looking at my watch during a run, but I'll just try it today to keep an eye on my pace and see if I can correct myself that way.

Well done Evy, especially for running through a panic attack. They suck! You’ll be at 60 minutes before you know it 😊🏃‍♀️.

Thanks and yeah panic attacks suck. I have a panic disorder since 2002 and have suffered from it massively. Luckily I am on good meds now which keep it more or less under control. But I regularly do have a (small) panic attack. Most often that is late in the evenings, but occasionally it does happen during the day. And with my weird mind, I can panic about just anything 🤪
