Best Exercises ??

Hi All, so I've just been diagnosed with osteopenia, which has come as a massive shock (I'm only 51) and I'm still trying to get my head around it to be honest. Anyway, I'm on some pretty heavy meds and high dosage of Vitamin D, for the foreseeable future. The Dr has said it's ok to keep running and swimming, so my question is apart from my running, swimming and twice daily walking, are there any other things I can do to help strengthen my bones and improve my bone density ??

As always, thanks so much in advance, for any replies !!

The first DEXA scan I had, in my 50s, showed osteoporosis. A few years after that I started running. My second DEXA (about 8 years after the first) showed it had improved to osteopenia. Running is pretty much the only lifestyle change.I eat a healthy diet, not much highly processed food, and sleep well.

Are you on HRT? Lots of evidence to show oestrogen protects your bones if your medical history allows you to take it.

If you're doing the exercises and taking the supplements that's a great start 😁

Thanks Yesletsgo, I've been told I'll have another scan every three years. He mentioned HRT, but is reluctant to try that route, as I'm perimenopause. I believe I have a good diet, albeit very restricted (no gluten, dairy etc - that's another story though), but I've asked to be referred to a dietician again !!

I just had a quick google of 'hrt perimenopause' and according to the headlines of the articles there are advantages to not waiting until full menopause to start it...BUT I'M NOT A DOCTOR and your doctor IS a doctor so best to rely on their advice. Having said which you mentioned he's a he, do you have any sort of 'well woman' clinic at your GP's who might be better informed on this issue? I'm biased as the ones in my doctors' have given me fantastic advice.
