Completed NRC 4-Week Run Beyond Plan

This morning I completed the final run of the NRC 4-Week Run Beyond Plan! My order of runs was a bit different, so I finished with the 5k run “Grateful 5k”!

And I’m really grateful to be back at 5k distances again!

It felt great, solid and very do-able! So really happy with that!

And it’s so nice reaching the geographical markers again that let you know you will be reaching 5k by the time you get back home! That fairy house, and that view at the top of an incline at nearly half way point! So good to get to that point!

Now to slowly expand to 10k by end of next year!

Yes, it was fun. It certainly kept me running, which I guess is half the battle. I think for slow runners like me, these type of plans never get the ramping-up quite right, as switching from duration runs to distance based runs is often a jump in distance. So as long as runners are aware of that, these kind of plans can be great. And the audio guided runs are obviously immensely enjoyable.

I think the best thing which worked well for getting my stamina up to the level of running 5ks again is actually my rowing and my walking. Additionally, I now wear my HR armband and I consciously try to slow down when I get to HRZ 4, which then helps with running for longer. I was surprised how easy the 5k felt, so I think keeping to low HR zones helped.

Thank you.

I agree…I think that’s why the timed Magic Plan works so well for us slow ‘uns 🐌🐌🐌

Yeah. I think that’s spot on. I enjoy the NRC plans the most. But, in terms of structure, I actually think the Magic Plan is still the best for my kind of running.

You are so right! Plus, psychologically, running for time can be so much more chilled! I often prefer it! Easier to plan too.
