We’re staying on our boat which is moored in a beautiful, tranquil bay in Greece. The land soars up a hill a couple of hundred feet high to our east, so the morning is cool thanks to the shadow cast as the sun rises behind it. To get to land the easiest way is to use a paddle board.
I’ve been getting quite good at this, though I draw the line at standing up on it ever since a tiny wave made me overbalance and fall in.
This morning I woke up early enough that the shade was still keeping it cool enough for a run. I put on my running gear and prepared for the crossing. I got onto my board no problem, but obviously not having any coffee beforehand wasn’t a good idea as I forgot my paddle. I was slowly drifting away from the boat so desperately reached out to grab the stern … and overbalanced💦💦💦
So the question was, do I find something else to wear, or decide not to run, or what? My first priority was to complete my crossing. No point getting changed now in case I fell in again. I retrieved my paddle and got back on the board.
Once I reached land it wasn’t too bad. It was warm and the wet clothes actually felt quite pleasant. I carried on up the 45 degree hill to my sister’s and grabbed a sneaky coffee. By the time I got to the bottom of the hill again I was raring to go. I decided I'd pretend I was doing the world's least demanding triathlon - 3k run, 5 minute paddle, 5 minute swim 😂
The run lasted less than half an hour but by the time I finished the sun was making its presence felt. The route is gentle slopes, fortunately the final km was pretty much downhill. Mo Farrah congratulated me at the end. That man gets everywhere 😊
PS the photo wasn't taken today, this was a day when I didn't fall in, when I was actually dressed for swimming
