Tourist run 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and a 5k PB πŸ˜ƒ

I’m up visiting my in-laws in Scotland 🏴󠁧󠁒󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿 and after a morning Christmas shopping with my sister-in-law I managed to conjure up enough energy for an afternoon run before it got dark.

There is a lovely level cycle path in the village where they live, which is a novelty for me as I don’t get many opportunities to run on the flat. My in-laws house is at the top of the hill, so my warm up walk was entirely downhill, with my run starting as I entered the village. I ran down to the loch shore and found the path up to the cycle track, which follows the route of an old railway line.

The autumn colours were lovely and the view over the loch gave a distant glimpse of late afternoon blue sky beyond the clouds. I aimed for a 5k, having run my first 5k since January earlier this week. I really didn’t expect a 5k PB and can only put that down to the flat, even surface today, rather than the uneven and up and down woodland trails I usually run when at home. It was a very pleasant surprise 😊 .

As I headed back up the hill from the village for my cool down walk, an old guy walking in the same direction asked me why I wasn’t running up the hill. We exchanged a nice bit of banter for a while and he recommended I have a β€œnice cup of tea to cool the blood” 😊 . Love it πŸ₯°πŸ΄σ §σ ’󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

What a lovely treat, it looks wonderful. Well done on your 5k and I’m sure a lovely cuppa after β˜•οΈ!

Congrats on the PB! Did Dabby-dot not go along?

Dabby-dot is away at Uni, so not with us on this trip. She’s run part of this route before when visitors here during her C25K. She had a beautiful day for her run too.

You can't beat holiday running πŸ˜‰It sounds and looks a wonderful place to run and a PB as well. Brilliant

β€’ in reply todijep

Thank you dijep! It was really mild and I ended up tying my top layer round my waist. Lovely to run in a t-shirt in Scotland in mid November!

Looks and sounds wonderful! Tea to cool the blood? I love Scottish expressions. Once when I was in the Isle of Skye a fisherman said, of my then toddler daughter 'she's well put together' 😊What lovely pictures and nice to be running on the flat!

β€’ in reply toRoxdog

I’d never heard the expression either. I couldn’t bring myself to tell him I don’t drink tea! 😊

Great result! I love those cycle paths. That is a particularly nice route that you took. I tend to run on the same path running in the opposite direction towards Kilbirnie. Not as pretty but always quieter.

β€’ in reply toFionamags

Maybe I will try that next time I’m here 😊. Perhaps I can persuade you to join me?

Isn't there a cycle path all the way to Paisley?, then onto Glasgow, I have heard other cyclists talking about that.

Yes there is. In the other direction it only goes as far as Kilbirnie though. Its a shame it doesn't go down to the coast.
