Ran my 4th Runniversary run today, making use of a “3.2k Surges” as part of my Runkeeper 10k plan. This included
- 1000 meter warm-up
- 8x(30sec fast, then 30sec slow)
- 1500 cool-down
It felt great, and the weather was sunny and fresh this morning. Perfect as a Runniversary run.
So the year has been eventful, as it seems every single year that I have run! And that’s four years, now! I can’t believe it!
It saw me reaching 1683 km totally run (on Runkeeper) over the 4 years, and 2,000,000 meters rowed! And yes, I got myself a “2 Million Meter Club” long-sleeved T-shirt to celebrate (of course making use of these for those colder morning runs).
I weathered various injury couch stints, from Covid to some soleus niggles, and then a minor ankle wound, minor in pain but major in that it kept me from running for 3 weeks as it healed! It was right in that spot where the top of the back of your shoe runs against your foot! Oh, what little things can bring a runner down!
I participated in various HU community challenges, from Running World Cup, the Tibetan Rites (loved that one), 12 Rows of Christmas, and the 7 Day James Dunne challenge, and I followed religiously our monthly walking challenges making me walk more than ever and finishing my 1000 mile challenge with all my activities! And wasn’t March Matness great?
I indulged in the following various training plans: GetFit HR Training for Rowers, my own Ankle Mobility Plan, My Jeffing C25k plan, I completed the Runkeeper 5k plan and its own walking plan (Movement for Mind). And of course, yoga-ed daily with YWA’s January journey!
I delighted in some absolutely new and exciting experiences: I tried out running on curved treadmills in a gym! I rowed in a completely new virtual environment (gorgeously decorated with snow and icy landscapes during the Xmas holidays). I ran in two cities completely new to me, as a tourist-runner! I started recording a podcast whilst running! Yeah, I know, right!? I joined the stepping craze in Nov and Dec on our S&F forum! I explored 5-Rhythm dancing!
And of course, I added all sorts of little things to support my fitness journey: hubby bought me a new set of dumbbells (we each have our own now), I bought a new chain holder for my rower (making the oiling process a one-person job), I bought a boot buddy making cleaning muddy running shoes, and 2 side-pocket leggings, 2 tees, one new peaked cap and - most excitingly - a heart-rate monitor armband! I bought a step, and persuaded hubby to get one as well! We now occasionally step in sync with music stepping videos!
And as a reward for my 4th Runniversary, I bought myself entry to the SixPack Challenge, a curated set of 6 routes through various beautiful places in our region, supported by RunGo audio-narrated navigation. I cannot wait to get started!
Running keeps on giving, and I am so thankful for that and the community here on Bridge, S&F and A10 who keep inspiring me, motivating me and running and walking alongside every single workout I do!
THANK YOU, you runners, you walkers and you virtual workout buddies !!!
These times can be so challenging, as life gets more stressful by the day. Running helps so immensely to keep one’s mind positive.
So, it’s been a great year and I appreciate you all!
