Socks and other thoughts

This morning was chilly with a little dampness in the air. I was desperate for a proper run having taken almost a week out recovering from a nasty cold. I needed to be sensible though, best to pull on the layers to keep warm and thoroughly do a good warm up routine before setting off, such faffage! First, the new Hilly merino trail socks so there's no gap between feet and leggings, very snuggly. Long sleeved top and jacket and a neck buff to quell the drafts. Fleecy head band, must keep those ears warm. Warm running gloves, reflective, fluorescent and phone friendly. Oh my can I get out the door yet? Phone, headphones, keys? Anything else? Oh yes, relective armbands. Off I go with Coach B's Cold run for company. It was good to feel the steady rhythm of my feet on the road again, hear the birds, feel the breeze, feel alive with the movement of my body. Although I am aware that I'm not 100%, that this week has zapped my energy, that I must take it easy. So 5k slowly ticked off, pleased to be out, feet so lovely and warm and comfy in my new socks and I stayed toasty too, although I will probably wear a hat when it gets colder, rather than a headband. And yes, Coach B did have more good cold running tips. Happy running everyone 🏃‍♂️

I bought some top notch winter running socks a while back. Bought too big as I forgot to adjust the order box online. Then got ill and missed the return date. Still I do have some HUGE socks ready should a very, very late growth spurt occur! 🤣

Oops, maybe try shrinking them with a warmer wash and put in tumble drier? Or try and return them anyway, appeal to their better nature?

(I'll give them to my just turned 18 son who is six foot tall and broad with it. They'll fit him and will never, ever be used for running!)

In my experience with a company that's an Amazon seller, we've had gadgets returned to us that have obviously been taken apart and hacked about with a note saying 'doesn't work'. If the customer returns them Amazon send them back to us. Obviously we don't mind if something is genuinely faulty but some people just take the mickey.

How cold was it with you? It's below 10C here and I'm still running in 3/4 tights and a short sleeved tshirt. I admit I've added gloves. Am I doing something wrong? 😂

Garmin said it was 7C, but it felt colder with a NW wind. I'm also a chilly person, I really feel the cold and it doesn't take much for my hands & feet to go really numb. So I've learnt to try and keep warm by layering up. We're all individual's and need to do what's right for ourselves. Hubby is still running in shorts!!!

Garmin said 8C for me today but the wind was biting. I was always 'that' woman in the office complaining it was too cold so I can't understand how I'm still running about half dressed this weather. The gloves definitely help. Generally after about 10 minutes running I'm taking off layers if I put them on, the gloves are a nice compromise, warm extremities and much easier to stash away if not needed.

I have a nice running jumper and windproof top but it isn't quite cold enough yet.

The coldest I've run at was -10C. I definitely wasn't in a tshirt for that!!

I liked that guided run. Lots of good tips for running on a cold day. Mercifully not running in temps Coach B is describing at points. Loved your word "faffage" So true. At this time of year I think I've got the time for a run starting in daylight, but oh my! The time it takes for the "faffage" it's become dark by the time I get going 🏃🏾‍♀️🏃‍♀️😵‍💫 Happy running 😂

I've got into the habit of doing my warm up first and it seems by the time I've located and put on all the necessary layers and tech & laced up my shoes that maybe I should be doing the warm up again! Oh for the shorts and t-shirt weather again....
