I didn’t know if I’d be able to come back…..

Hello

It’s been months since I posted to all the lovely supportive people here. I’m very sorry but I couldn’t face it as I had an injury, which a physio said meant that I might not be able to run again. I was devastated. But the amazing news is after nearly 4 months of not running I started very slowly again mid October and today I ran 5km.

In case this is of use to anyone else I will share my injury details and experience.

I developed acute pain in both hips which made walking difficult and kept me awake at night and I resorted to taking pain killers daily. I went to see a physio who diagnosed that it was the small muscles in your bottom that join at the hip joint on both hips that were damaged. This damage was caused by my running gait. My legs sort of ‘fell in’ and put undue pressure, strain and impact on these muscles. I was advised that although I had done everything correctly as regards the running programme from C25km right up to 10km, my core was weak.

I did nothing for 6/8 weeks. Then I used a fitness app and did yoga 3 to 5 times a week for 6 weeks and 4 weeks into that I started week 4 of C25km. I don’t know if I will get to 10km but I’m just so happy I’ve made it to 5km.

All the best to everyone.

Lindy

Awwwhhhh… that is so good to hear! And 5k is such an achievement! I can relate and have had a few, thankfully short, blips where I thought I might not have much of a running future.

So keeping at it, adding strength and flexibility practices, is certainly the right way to do it.

My last 10k is now more than 2 years ago, but currently I’m just working myself up to 5k again and will stay somewhere between 5 and 7k.

So I can relate! So well done! You worked through that challenging time and that is amazing!

Just in case you didn’t know, we do have a Strength and Flexibility forum, called S&F, and we also have a walking forum, called A10. Both are run by our collective larger groups of running volunteers. So feel free to have a look! This linked post has all the links to our 5 sister forums: healthunlocked.com/couchto5...

Stay safe and sane and run gently on!

it must be a relief to know what happened and to now be back on the road (or trail) 😀🏃‍♀️

Yoga is lovely. I was doing hip stuff today after my run 🧘‍♀️

I am sorry you've had to go through all that but congratulations on your new-found (or, rather, forged) core.

It’s so lovely to see you back. Been there with the injury couch and it’s utterly miserable. It sounds like what you’re doing with your physio, and your yoga is working and it’s great you’ve found other ways to stay active. I bet that 5km felt like a million dollars when it popped up again. Massive congratulations ❤️

Hey Lindy, so good to see you back. Running again too, that 10k will wait as long as it takes if ever, just enjoy what you are doing

Really pleased to hear your success in getting to 5K again after your time on the IC and physiotherapy. I haven't posted lately (or read many posts) for similar reasons but I am hoping having rested and had physio that I will soon restart running gently. I wish you every success in getting to 10K again. Please keep us posted.
