Since I ran 5km a few years ago I had made up my mind to try and get to 10km. Although I was pretty happy running 3-4 times a week 4-5km at a time with some hills occasional sprints etc. So I didn't really increase my distances much. The odd 7km here or there. But with new resolve from Jan 1st this year I made up my mind to try and push to get to 10km within a couple of months. This morning I got there!! Very very happy and also I was really happy with the time. I ran over so 10.51 km just in case my Garmin played tricks on me and lost some distance. . So that was 1hr16mins so for 10km exactly my time was 1hr11mins. It's funny though once I decided this is the best running day ever...My mind started slowly ticking over...Hmmm I wonder how long it would take me to train to break one hour. Anyway best wishes to all running friends..may you all carry on loving what you do!!

First 10km I've ever run in my life
Well done for your 10K! Great time, too! ππππ
Funny how quickly we think of the next challenge, though! I knew Iβd never be able to crack it in an hour, so my first thought was βooh, maybe I can run for 10 miles!β
Ha 10 miles exactly so...I thought that too cheers Jools πππ
You can do both of course! I immediately started extending my long run towards 10 miles. (Did drop back every couple of weeks to 10K). And during that time, my 10K time improved as I got used to the distance π.
This is fantastic news!! Great run report for a great run. What a milestone and there are more to come! I hope youβre doing some celebrating!
If youβd like a virtual badge, just let me know on this thread hereβ¦

And if youβre even a little bit tempted to go beyond 10k (which youβve already done!!), have a look at this post about the Fun Beyond 10k forum where youβd be warmly welcomedβ¦

Massive well done for all youβve achieved! πββοΈπ π©βππ
Thanks ever so much MU I will definitely indulge in a virtual badge thankyou very much indeed...Gonna make a cup of tea and have a look at the Fun Beyond 10k if it can get even more fun !!πππ
A cup of tea is the perfect reward! I went on from 10k to ten miles and then HMβ¦and had a whole lot of fun doing it! The main thing is to keep running in whatever way you enjoy though, and there are members ready to cheer you on however far you end up going. Itβs a lot of fun pencilling in some dream runs and goals. Have fun thinking about whatβs next!
Well done! And brilliant time too.
Congratulations to you taichi1 on that 10K run, great time, you should be very proud of yourself π ππΎ
Congratulations! You never forget your first 10k! ππͺπ
Yep I'm sure that's true !!! ππ
Congratulations on your 10k! That's a great time
Well done ππ» itβs a great accomplishment. I remember getting to 10k last year but not seeming to get past that distance due to injury or illness (something would always happen to stop me).
Last night I ran 13km (Iβm training for a half marathon) I'm just hoping I can gradually increase each week.
Good luck on your next goal.
Morning Dendev75 yep that's what I had with reaching 10K...Lots of niggling injuries between 5km and 10km ..but touch wood I'm through that stage now ...thanks again Dd appreciate it !!! Best of luck with your half marathon..to think that's twice what I've done ππππππ
Woohoo!!! Huge congrats!!! The world of 10k races, virtual or not, is now open to you!
I always felt 10k races definitely deserve real medals, whereas 5ks feel more common, so I felt odd signing up to the one or other medal-worthy virtual 5k event, but signing up to 10ks felt brill.
Happy 10k-ing! Itβs a great distance! (Iβm again nowhere near that, but am also considering training up again)
A virtual 10k race that sounds like a great idea. I hadn't though of doing that...tx alot CBDB. A cup of coffee and I will have a look around the virtual running world!! Thanks again and good luck with training up again if that's the way you go ππππ
Nice! My go to place are these gorgeous running medals that Iβve been known to wear as necklaces π€£π€£. virtualrunningevents.co.uk
And their seconds still need you to submit the evidence but you still have to run it. (Which is a plus for motivating you to run it)
But there are also virtual where everyone races at kind of the same time, both virtual and in real life, like the Edinburgh Mara and 10k.
Have fun!
Absolutely brilliant! Really well done! π
well done. I too am on the 5-10k journey. Good luck at future endeavours. I like the sound of 10k to 10miles βΊοΈ
