Will I ever be able to start running again :(

I haven't posted on here for a while. 2019 was a great year for me, I achieved C25k at age 49,and was regularly running 5k every other day, and the Xmas happened and I was tucked up in bed with flu for most of the new year. I then started running in the new year and sustained a knee injury (acl I think), ignored it for 4 weeks and then finally gave in into doing physio. It's March now and after a couple of weeks physio, I don't feel the pain anywhere near as much. However I'm apprehensive that when I start running again I will get the same pain again. I will get a new pair of running shoes (after 2 yrs of old new balance ones). Any suggestions for a great transition back would be really helpful.

Thankfully I have been able to do spinning and cardio classes, plus body balance is my new go to class for 2020.

:(:(

Sorry to hear about your woes! It sounds as though you have been doing an excellent job of cross training to keep yourself fit though - well done!!

To come back to running I suggest you take it very slowly. A lot of folk in this situation go back to C25K - this might be a good idea for you, it is a great way to ease back in. Just give it a try and see how you feel. If you experience any pain just rein back, rest and try again.

You can do it!!!

thank you for that, really good advice. Going to give it 4 more weeks, and then yep back to C25k, I would feel comfortable with that!

I had a cycling accident 5 years ago and disintegrated my acl

Last year I broke my leg and was in a cast for 4 months. I know how you feel, it seems endless. Just start slowly and take your time and you will get there x

If you've been having physio could you not speak to your therapist? I was in a similar situation with my ankle. Took a year out and told my therapist I was desperately wanting to get back to the running and he said 'give it a try/see how you go' etc I did exactly as roseabi suggests. I started C25K from the beginning and graduated all over again! Sounds like the way to go! Good luck!

Yes my remote physio has been great, and the provided app with exercises have been excellent, definitely slow at first, thanks

I did C25K in 2017 and ran on and off afterwards. In 2018 I hurt my back during the heavy snow from the beast from the east and could not run for over 6 months. I then restarted again and I’ve been running ever since. Last year I ran right throughout the year, so you can do it. Just build it back up slowly.

I suffered knee and ankle injuries in a nicest possible way. Both ballooned making walking difficult, pain at night, out of running for over five months, physio, pain killers, the works. Both time l repeated C25K from scratch and a few years later l completed a marathon. If a physio manages to fix you it's not a question of whether you are able to run, it's literary 'do you want to run'. Of course, you need to address the causes of your injury, look at your shoes and insoles, and get assessed by gait analysis guys. If all fine and all boxes are ticked, then go out and run.

yes, I intend to do c25k again, that seems very sensible. I do want to run, but I'm not prepared to do another injury that could puts me back by 12 months. I'm going to get a new pair of shoes, and yep the gait analysis guys are very good, thank you
