Noooooo.....

After running for a year and loving it I am on the IC as a result of an accident at my work 😱

I’m absolutely devastated-have inflammation to the muscles on the right side of my body which is causing nerve pain and spasms to my leg, arm, lower back and neck/back of head.

Been to GP-have muscle relaxants and went to physio yesterday (would wait 4-6 weeks for OH referral). Physio was excellent-acupuncture and gentle exercise regime.

GP and physio have reassured me that I will run again, it’ll just take time but gutted. Can not believe this has happened, running has been such an important part of my life and I feel a bit lost tbh-anybody else been thru something similar?

Oh God you poor thing. I've had a couple of short spells on the IC (before I discovered C25K) and the frustration is a killer.

I've no advice, apart from do everything the physio tells you, but I wish you a speedy recovery😥

Thank u-focussing on my recovery and feel confident with my physio. Also have a very supportive running coach who I’m sure will get me back when I’m ready.

Once I get the go ahead from the physio I’ll b hitting the yoga to keep me busy 😊

Ooh that sounds painful. So sorry that you are in the IC. No advice other than do what you can when you can to keep your various muscles working. Best of luck.

Oh Nellie, how awful. Hopefully with good care and advice, coupled with the appropriate exercises, you’ll be up and running again before too long. Stay positive. 👍😀

That is awful! Puts my current lay up with a virus in perspective. I have done all the strengthening exercises I can and read loads on subjects such as cadence, stride length etc loads of technical stuff to divert me and make me believe I will come back stronger. No advice to offer other than treat the recovery process like your running: stick to the plan and full commitment. I did have a knee injury a couple of years ago (on crutches) I remember complaining to a physio that one of the recovery exercises really hurt. Answer “and????” No sympathy .. but lots of help.💐💐💐💐

Oh Nellie! Sorry to hear your news - can't offer you any advice other than keeping up with physio and report any new problems that arise too. Hope you aren't on the IC for long.

Oh, poor you! That sounds awful and I know very well how gutted you must be feeling right now. BUT, your GP and physio have said you will get back to running... and you will.

I spent quite some time on the ic last year - here's my story (hope it helps!): I had run my first half marathon in the spring and was on a high but following a nasty virus and sinus infection, I coughed (whilst out running!😮) and injured my back. The resulting sciatica caused nerve damage and foot drop in my left leg😮😮😕. I couldn't walk properly, let alone think of running! It was a slow old road to recovery (had a great sports physio in the early stages) and I was on the couch for three months before being able to gradually get back to running - that was a tough old journey because I ran with the residual nerve damage initially. However, time is a great healer and I have quite a stubborn streak in me that was not going to give up on something that had brought me so many health and emotional benefits! A couple of weeks ago, I ran the Great South Run (10 miles) for the second time and hope to do my second HM next spring🙂. I would say that my left leg is still slightly weaker than my right but no one other than me can tell - my pace is still improving and nearly back to what it was before the injury.

I do hope your journey is quicker than mine but remember, running is a long old journey and you will be back out there enjoying your runs again. Keep the faith and maybe spend some of that healing time reading some good running books and planning your return..."Every setback paves the way for a great comeback"! Take care and good luck.🙂x

Thank you Sandra-your story sounds awful but I’m glad to hear that you’re back to almost full fitness 😊

One thing that running has taught me is perseverance and I know that I’ll be back eventually - I just need to have a bit of patience 😊

Enjoy your next run-I envy you 🏃🏼‍♀️
