Breaking the Sub 30 5k!

This morning's Parkrun was special for more than one reason. Not only was it remembrance day, with the organisers arranging a short service with bugler to play last post before the run, it was also my first sub 30 5k!

I have been training towards getting my 5k under 30 mins for a while now, so you can imagine my joy when I checked my Garmin after crossing the line and seeing 29:46. The funny thing is, I didn't particularly push myself today and felt I was going at a pretty steady pace. I purposely didn't check my watch for the duration of the run as it is becoming a bit of a toxic trait for me, checking it every 100 metres and getting dismayed at the time and distance.

The last time I got close to a 30 min finish time (around 30:30) I felt like I was pushing hard and was exhausted by the finish line, but today was totally different. I flew along the course and felt as though I could run forever once I passed the finish line. Another thing I noticed today is that usually, on that final stretch to the finish line, I often step off the pace as I am so exhausted, but today I actually sped up and ended up sprinting through the finish!

I think it definitely helped on how amazing the park looked and felt in its full autumnal glory (as you can see from my photos).

if you've read this far, comment and tell me how your parkrun went this morning. Or, if you haven't managed to get you to your local parkrun yet, let me know and maybe I can help convince you to make that first step!

Well done!

It really was a glorious morning today, the perfect combination of sun and a low enough temperature that you don't get hot and sweaty. What a fantastic achievement :)

A big congratulations to you TormundsBeard on achieving your first sub 30 minute 5k at parkrun this morning, I was the tailwalker at Springburn parkrun today, that's the 3rd time there and the seventh time altogether that I have achieved that roleCertainly no service, bugle or even the two minutes silence at 11 o'clock for me today, the reason was that at 11 o'clock the train I got home left Springburn Station dead on time with announcements on where the train was going, pleas mind the gap, etc, so by 11:02 I was well on my way home, the weather was beautiful, a bit chilly with the temperature around 3C, I am booked to be a marshall at Palacerigg parkrun on Saturday 2nd December.

Congratulations on that sub 30 min parkrun, my aim is sub 40 min but I've a way to go. I was tailwalker yesterday so just enjoyed a brisk walk in the sun

So pleased to read this - and a huge ‘well done’ from me!

Funny how while you were running you didn’t feel you were pushing that hard. Yes, they could be partly due to the ideal conditions for you, but also that you are getting fitter!

Either way, you must be feeling very proud. This is what you’ve been working for!
