5k sub 30 mins attempt

Well it was my 63rd birthday yesterday and despite having rather too much cake and definitely too much wine yesterday I decided to head out at 6.30 this morning for my 5k speed attempt 😁 It was planned to be all about speed today but I actually felt more doing a steady plod to be honest. I have to say it felt like hard work and I missed my target of doing a sub 30 min 5k by 4 seconds, but I did manage to trim over a minute and half off my PB time, so not too disappointed.

First of all happy birthday and just a few seconds over 30 minutes for your 5k .

Also a full 1 min 30 off your original time thats amazing . I'd say that's a great run.

Thanks I was pleased, but would have been happier to have been 4 seconds quicker 😁

Happy Birthday! Lots to be pleased with here. Onwards and upwards

You smashed that PB big time, by more than a minute and a half !!

I'm sure you'll get to a sub 30 5k, but for now you should be very proud of that PB.

Happy Birthday

Thank you, that minute and a half did hurt though πŸ˜†

Congratulations on your new PB time and belated happy birthday. It’s so hard running on your own, never mind attempts at PB’s at the moment. So you have done amazingly well. You’ll smash it next time. Just hold the nice steady 6:00 min/km pace for the 5K and with 200 meters to go to the finish line dig deep and push home with as fast a pace as you can manage. Great running.

Belated happy birthday. That wine and cake obviously did the trick allowing you to almost teach your 5k 30min target 1🀣 I'm sure you will get there very soon. Happy running πŸ€—

90 seconds off a 5K PB is impressive stuff!

Thank you, but I have to say the last 1k was really tough keeping up the pace . . .

What would be the point if it was easy.

Happy birthday.

I think I'll just gift you 4 seconds -)

Sounds to me like you just had a tech malfunction for 4 seconds

Happy birthdayπŸŽ‚πŸŽ‚πŸ·πŸ·. An amazing result.🌟 A new PB to boot. I'd take the 4 off. The tracking systems can vary and let's face it are not calibrated so you probably did shave the that time off. I'd say that's a win!!πŸ‘‹πŸ‘‹

Personally I find if I go out with the intent of beating a PB it rarely works - my best 5k time just popped up when I was running 10 not thinking about times at all whilst when I have busted a gut to do it purposefully I have puffed like a train and given up after 5k. I think if you aren't in a race or anything then go with the flow - think you can go fast go for it / think it will be a struggle go long - you can have another go next time.

Whatever you choose also remember -

a) Targets are arbitrary - why not have a target of 30'10''

b) They are personal

c) If they aren't ridiculously hard you will likely get there in the end - just means a few extra goes.

I think you are doing great well done!
