Not what I was aiming for, in fact when I left I thought I'll have an easy run tonight. Picked up pace to see if I could better my segment pace, try to crawl a little higher on the leaderboard - didn't btw! I'm resigned to staying 3rd place.
In the meantime Strava announces a PB 5K. Was so enthralled with the segment that I only heard 29 mins... and thought it said 34 seconds. So, I checked my PR's and my 5K was 29:01. Still not convinced, I totted up the splits and got 28:18. No idea how Strava works, but just happy it's under 30, whichever way you slice it.
Woohoo!!!!! Beaming here tonight. πππ
P.S. I'm switching off the pace announcements to focus on distance now as I'm struggling with self-discipline not to constantly try to better my previous runs. Taking myself in hand!
Wow ! You are killing it! And you look like a confident athlete in the photo too ! You must be sooo excited! Well done! Happy for you πππππππ
Can you remind me... when you did your graduation run how far did you get ? (did you run 5k that time too or were you under 5k in 30 minutes) i know it was only a couple of weeks ago.
I ran until I hit 5k on all 3 runs that week. It started because I was keeping pace with my OH who had turned the heat up trying to do 5k in 30 because that's what it says on the tin. We didn't make it, but I knew from the split pace that we were close so we kept going. It had always been our plan to do the 5k for graduation no matter how long it took.
Our times that week were:-
R1 - 31:06
R2 - 31:54
R3 - 32:23
Gospel according to Strava!
As you can see, stamina wasn't quite there yet. Got slower as the fatigue set in.
Yes thank You! I knew you had made improvements, but I wanted to see how much. You really are doing great! It's impressive for sure! You knocked just over 2 minutes off your PB in week 9. That's great!
Thanks. It was a great run, but really highlighted how well the first run I that segment was. Wasn't until I tried to best it that I realise how well I'd done. Was thrilled with placement on the leader board but didn't fully appreciate my efforts. π
Brilliant Sutsha! I'm sure the change of focus will have a positive effect on your pace as well. It certainly did for me - I just forgot about speed and just went for completing runs. The next time I went for pace at Parkrun it was just there and nowhere near the struggle my first 30 min 5k was x
That's good news! Totally proud of that tonight and looking after myself now. Resting and rehydrating. Had a good stretch afterwards too. Thanks for your support Marie π
You'll be staying soon enough. How's your week going? I'm still visiting nursery school too to check up on everyone's progress! I'll be waiting at the finish line for you π€
Yes I have read the post 5k guidance. I thought I will get comfortable with 30 mins for a couple of weeks first and then start doing that. I can cover just over 5k including the warm up and cool down walks so am hopeful to get there sooner rather than later!
Yes thanks! PB for local ParkRun is 31:57 but it is 5.2k. I donβt feel Iβm getting faster. Trying intervals to increase. Well done you though ππ½
Ain't that the truth. I'm 9 seconds behind the girl in 2nd place for the segment I was after. 27 seconds behind 1st place. Might as well be an hour! It's around 1.5k and at the end of my run. Tried to best in intervals, nope, then tonight during what was supposed to be a 5k, nope. I give up! π
Thanks Lorijay! It's great when it goes well. If only it was always like that. Runs like tonight make the hard ones, where you're counting down the last few minutes, fade away!
I'm late to the party again. Typical. But hell's bells, woman. What are you doing? That is a totally awesome result, hon. You are just smashing these things. Hope your OH was a chuffed as you clearly are. He's got a very special partner, I hope he's as proud as we all are of you.
Good idea to start to focus on distance, not pace now (or it sounds really good to me anyway). You little belter, you!! xxx
OH has been ill so missed a few runs, now I'm giving him a challenge when he returns! He's very impressed with my stats, not sure if he believes them or thinks I've tied the phone to a dog...
I'm well chuffed at that. Next I'll sort out my distance and see about this 10K lark.
Thought I'd pay for it today but after a good stretch, no stiffness. π
Thanks ju-ju- ! Spot of the ju-ju lippyπ too you'll see. Must find some that stays put while running, not sure how bad it was by the time I got home π Am I the only one who salivates during a run. I'm like a puppy constantly licking my lips π
Thank you, it's Bourjois Rouge Edition in matte. Wasn't keen on the matte effect but bought for work and usually put gloss over but thought that would be a recipe for disaster. It's 24h and stays not too badly but too drying for running I'd say. Maybe topping with Vaseline is the answer. πππ
Yay I think I have the same!! The trick is Vaseline constantly then it doesnβt dry. I love lipstick itβs such a simple way to make you feel good π
