Happy happy, first ever sub 30 min 5k

Well, well, almost exactly a year after starting Couch to 5k and 6 days after the GNR I have managed my first ever sub half hour 5k.

It was a bit chilly at the start on the sands of Newbiggin, a real hint of Autumn blowing in off the North sea.

The first 100 meters are on the tricky sand before 1.5k flat on the promenade. A steep slope then a loop and back to the promenade to the start of lap 2. At this point I knew if I could hold it together I was going to go close. Lap 2 is a repeat and I was back on the sea front with 1km to go and bang on a half hour time, I managed to dig deep though and managed the last km in 5.31 mins.

Absolutely knackered at the end but chuffed.

Might try Whitley Bay park run next week and have entered the Hexham 10km end of October.

Run happy, run safe.

Very well done Chris, that’s no mean feat πŸ‘πŸ‘

I’m still 22secs off it, but I’ll get there.....hopefully 😊

Im absolutely sure you will mate, no doubt. Bit of a surprise today to be honest, the asthma was really bad through the night but felt good from the off this morning.

Good stuff, especially with sand, slopes and the GNR still in your legs …..

5'48" average pace next weekend to go sub-29 - only 5 secs/k faster :-)

Well done Chris, that sounds like a tough seaside parkrun with sand included. What a brilliant week you’ve had
