I’ve been really quiet on here but have been popping on to ready your posts of all your running journeys.
I’ve been struggling with what I think is plantar fasciitis - shooting pain through my heel, worse pain in the morning, still being able to run without pain (well that was silly of me).
I’d been running 3 times a week as usual building back up to 10k after feeling poorly for 3 weeks, and I was doing ct5k with my son but he was on week 5/6 so the longer runs, so the distance was creeping up each week and I obviously wasn’t giving my ageing body enough rest in between. Anyway I hobbled around on holiday then went for a couple of runs but I must have really done some damage as the pain was like a stabbing pain in the morning and then a throbbing pain which lasted all day and even woke me up.
So lots of stretches, rolling my foot over a frozen water bottle and tennis ball, a massage gun bought, taping my feet and insoles are all helping. The pain is just like a tender bruised feeling now but I am not going to run until it has completely gone.
so I’ve joined a kayaking and paddle boarding club which I am going to twice a week to keep me busy, still doing my yoga and stretches and praying I can get back to running soon.

It does feel like it’s improving (very slowly) each day. I think it’s hard as I’m in a running club who love to post photos of every run we do and I’ve not been able to take part but I know you’re right, the runs will wait and I’m hoping to treat myself to a new pair of trainers once I get back. Thanks OF xx
Commiserations-plantar fasciitis is such a beastly and debilitating affliction but I had never heard of it until I googled to try to find out what was causing the pain I had. I feel it is an undernoticed condition which could do with being researched and reported on more.
I did try to get some treatment but I don’t think it helped at all. The pain gradually receded over time ( I can still feel where it was if I flex my foot too far) and I bought some seriously supportive but not glamorous shoes which I’m now rather addicted to. ( I think it was doing a lot of town type walking in flat but not arch supporting shoes that triggered it but who knows as I was at the time 50something and female which seems to be a key time/type for this affliction).
You’re so right, I’d heard of it but didn’t really know what it was until I said I had it, then a few people were giving me their advice on how to help it heal.
Did you have physio at all? I’m thinking if it’s no better next week to look into it.
Are your supportive shoes for everyday wear? I’ve just ordered ‘recovery sliders’ (didn’t know they were a thing) - apparently I should wear them around the house instead of flat slippers or sliders.
I think mine was triggered by wearing flat shoes or no shoes (love being barefoot), and I was doing a bit too much running with not enough rest. Live and learn - but yes I’m a female approaching fifty so might be something in that. Thanks and I hope we never have to struggle with this horrible affliction again.
I went to a chiropodist and had some therapy that felt like elastic bands being pinged on to my feet around the heels. . I had PF in both feet but worse in one. At the time it did not seem to help at all but I was feeling a bit desperate. A good physio might have been better.
My shoes are made by Joya. They look like trainers but you could not run in them. I now try to wear them when I’m walking anywhere as anything else feels a bit flimsy!
I should look into the recovery sliders. Where are you buying those from? I would be interested to know if you feel they help. I wear slippers indoors which certainly do not have sufficient support but protect toes(I broke my little toe a long time ago by stubbing it on furniture so I’m a bit wary of bare feet)
Oh that must have been a miserable time (both feet) 😞
I’ve been using a massage gun (home bargains) and it seems to be helping 👍🏻
I’ll look into the Joya shoes 👍🏻
The recovery sliders are Hoka brand - I’ll let you know what they’re like when they arrive but I understand you being nervous around open toe shoes after breaking a toe 😓
I dreamt last night that I had lovely new cushioned trainers and I went for a run 😋 let’s hope that was a glimpse of the near future 😆
Thank you, I’m really enjoying my water activities but I did dream last night that I went for a run in new super cushioned trainers 😆 I can’t wait to get back to it.
